CM Adityanath holds review meeting on law and order situation in state

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday held a review meeting with officials on law and order situation in the state.The meeting was attended by District Magistrates (DMs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Superintendent of Police (SPs) from all districts across the state.Other senior officials present were Chief Secretary, DGP, Principal Secretary (Home) etc. officials were not allowed to carry their mobile phones along with them and it was kept outside the meeting hall.He also held a meeting with Chief Secretary and senior police officials on Monday on the issue of women security in the state.This came in the backdrop of the recent spate of incidences of crime against women in the state that created an outrage among the public and members of civil society. It also raised a question over the law and order situation in the state.A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by six men in Kushinagar on Saturday while a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Muslim .

2 GRP personnel beat up journalist covering derailment of goods train, suspended

Two GRP personnel allegedly thrashed a television journalist after an argument with him when he was covering the derailment of a goods train in Shamli, following which they were suspended, officials said Wednesday. Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police OP Singh ordered to place under suspension the Government Railway Police's Shamli Station House Officer Rakesh Kumar and constable Sanjay Pawar, the state police tweeted Wednesday morning. A senior UP government official, quoting Shamli Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Pandey, said the action was taken after the two GRP personnel thrashed Amit Sharma. In a purported video of the incident which went viral on social media late last night, the accused GRP personnel, in plain clothes, can be seen repeatedly slapping and punching Sharma. The CBI is carrying out searches at 22 locations in Uttar Pradesh and the national capital, including three residential premises, of former UP Minister Gayatri Parajapti in connection with the illegal mining scam, officials said Wednesday. Prajapati had held the mining portfolio during the Samajwadi Party government under Akhilesh Yadav, they said. The case pertains to violation of norms in giving mining leases in various districts of the state, the officials added.

Angry locals protest after boiler blast kills 2 in Maha

Angry locals protested outside a hospital in Buldhana district of Maharashtra after a boiler blast at a food processing company there left two persons dead and as many others injured, police said on Wednesday. Some labourers were engaged in welding work when the boiler at the private food processing unit, located in Khamgaon area here, exploded around 6.30 pm on Tuesday, police inspector Santosh Tale said. The impact of the blast was so severe that the workers were thrown out of the premises, killing two of them and injuring as many others, he said. The injured persons and the bodies were later taken to the City Hospital where angry locals gathered and demanded action against the food company officials, he said. The police rushed to the site and dispersed the angry crowd, Tale said, adding that the situation was under control. Court acquits man accused of sexually assaulting minor girl

A court here in Maharashtra has acquitted a 36-year-old man of charges of kidnapping a minor girl and sexually assaulting her on the pretext of marriage. District Judge S B Bahalkar in her order last week observed that there was a delay in lodging the FIR which, she said, was an extremely vital evidence, and there was no medical evidence to show that the victim was sexually assaulted. The prosecution told the court that on March 7, 2013, that the victim, then aged 16 years and residing in Wada taluka of Thane, went to take her Class 10 exam but did not return home. Her family members later got to know that she had gone with the accused, Chetan Kantilal Patil. They approached police after three days when both the victim and the accused were found. The accused was subsequently arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366-A (procuration of minor girl) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Karnataka: Journalist attacked by employees of pharmaceutical company in Tumkur

Karnataka: Priest, villagers held for parading man naked inside temple

A man belonging to the Scheduled Caste was paraded naked at Shaneshwara Temple in Gundlupete by priest and villagers who alleged that he intended to destroy the idols.The incident occurred on June 3.Speaking about the incident, Chandrappa, a priest at Shaneshwara Temple said, "When he came, I gave him water. A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to raping and killing a young Arab-Israeli student in Melbourne, one of a spate of attacks that sparked fears about women's safety in Australia's second biggest city. The body of Aya Maasarwe, 21, was found by passers-by near a tram stop on an early January morning, hours after she was attacked on her way home while she was speaking on the phone with her sister in Israel. Codey Herrmann was arrested and charged by police with the attacks several days later. He pleaded guilty to one charge of rape and one charge of murder in the Supreme Court of Victoria state. His sentencing hearing is due to take place in early October. Thousands of protesters took to the streets calling for an end to violence against women after Maasarwe's killing. Gurugram: Iraqi national held for throwing puppies from 8th floor

An Iraqi national was arrested by Gurugram Police on Tuesday for allegedly throwing two of his pet puppies from the eighth floor of a building on June 10.The accused, identified as Saif Azhar Abdul Hussain, was arrested from his residence in Gurugram sector-65.Both the puppies reportedly died on the spot. UP: Fake rape extortion racket accused sent to 14 day custody

One guard freed in French prison hostage standoff: source

An inmate armed with a homemade weapon took two guards hostage at a high-security prison in northwest France before one of the hostages was released, a source involved in the incident said. The inmate was still holding the second hostage, a female trainee, on Tuesday as police special forces arrived by helicopter at the Conde-sur-Sarthe Penitentiary Centre, which holds dangerous or radicalised prisoners and those with serious discipline problems.
