A 35-year-old man was arrested Saturday for allegedly brandishing a fake gun at the parking area for the Mumbai airport's cargo vehicles, police said. The incident occurred in the wee hours on June 7 in the parking area, around one km from the international airport. A CCTV grab of the incident shows a drunk man riding pillion on a motorcycle brandishing a small firearm at the staff on duty and trying to intimidate them, a police official said. While the person, identified as Sunil Madgune, has been arrested, police are looking for three of his aides who accompanied him on two motorcycles, he said. Madgunde works as a sweeper with the Mumbai civic body. A case has been registered under section 506 (2) (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act.

A teenage girl in Maharashtra's Palghar district has registered a police complaint claiming a distant relative confined her for several days and raped her repeatedly, an official said Saturday. Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said the girl (18), a Class IX student, approached the police on Friday night following which a case was registered against the man, identified as Navnath Savar, under relevant sections of the IPC for rape, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt. "The girl has alleged that the man, between April and May 22 this year, raped her repeatedly and also confined her over six days during this period and beat her up. She has said these incidents took place in Kudus town of the district's Wada tehsil," an official said. He said a probe was underway and Savar, a resident of Abhitghar in Wada tehsil, is yet to be arrested.
The Uttar Pradesh government has successfully set up verification process at ration shops providing subsidised grains to the poor to stop illegal diversion of food. In an interaction with media here, state's Food and Civil Supplies minister Atul Garg said EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) has been installed at the ration shops across the state, as the machine verifies public distribution system's beneficiaries with their thumb impressions, ensuring that only those entitled to get subsidised food receive it. Four people, who allegedly stole vehicles in Delhi-NCR and sold them in Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested from the national capital, officials said Saturday. The accused have stolen over 100 vehicles and 13 cars have been recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, they said. A journalist has been arrested for allegedly sharing an objectionable post against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the social media, police said. An FIR was registered against Prashant Kanojia by a sub-inspector at Hazratganj police station on Friday night in which it was alleged that the accused made "objectionable comments against the CM and tried to malign his image". Acting on the FIR, the accused was arrested, a senior police official said. Kanojia had shared a video on Twitter and Facebook where a woman is seen speaking to reporters of various media organisations outside the CM office claiming that she had sent a marriage proposal to the CM. A betel trader was Saturday shot dead by bike-borne persons at the busy Station Road Crossing in the city area here, police said. Manoj kumar Chaurasia, 35, was going to the railway station when miscreants shot him and fled with his bag, Superintendent of Police S Anand said.
