In a statement, the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) said it is closely monitoring the developments and that employee safety remains the industry's "foremost priority." Indian tech industry revenues to grow 6.1% to $315 bn in FY26: Nasscom

Indian tech industry revenues for FY26 are set to grow 6.1 per cent to USD 315 billion, Nasscom said on Tuesday. The industry lobby grouping revised up its FY25 revenues number to USD 297 billion from USD 282.6 billion earlier. The revenue growth in FY26 increased marginally to 6.1 per cent in FY26 from 5.9 per cent in FY25 despite the headwinds, it said. Its President Rajesh Nambiar said the industry continues to be a net job generator, and the overall number of employees is set to increase 2.3 per cent to 5.95 million in FY26 from 5.82 million in the year-ago period. AI offers opportunity for Indian firms to drive job transformation: Nasscom

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) globally presents significant opportunities for Indian companies and will not adversely impact their businesses, Nasscom AI Head Ankit Bose said on Tuesday. He said instead of job cuts, India will witness job transformations as roles evolve with the growing adoption of AI. "AI is getting developed across the world, but who will deploy that. For that you need people... So now India adding capacity... AI is happening at a massive scale and Indian professionals will deploy that. So it's a big opportunity for us but we have to be ahead of the curve and we have to keep our skills up to date," Bose told PTI. He said at the sidelines of a session in the AI Impact Summit here. To build capacity, the government and private sector are taking steps. "In the next few months we are going to enable 1.5 lakh people in AI-based developers... We are working with government to develop curriculum that are needed in colleges," he said. He added t

Budget 2026: Nasscom urges cloud tax clarity, ESOP deferment for startups

Industry body Nasscom hopes that the Union Budget will extend Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP) tax deferment to more startups and bring suitable clarifications to address concerns around the tax treatment of foreign cloud use of Indian data centres. The association - whose members include IT companies and tech players across-the-spectrum, of varying size and scale - wants the Budget to clarify that procuring hosting or co-location services from an Indian data centre operator would not create a business connection or permanent establishment for the foreign cloud service provider, as the arm's length payments to the Indian player fully cover India-based functions. ESOP tax deferral for more start-ups is another proposal highlighted by Nasscom in its Budget push, as is the extension of the carry-forward and set-off of accumulated losses and unabsorbed depreciation benefits in case of amalgamation or merger to all companies (irrespective of their business nature). Other suggestions ...

Nasscom Foundation, IBM to upskill 87K marginalised youth in digital tech

In a matter of days, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll vaulted from being the leader of a military bureaucracy where he's been cutting red tape to quickly buy inexpensive drones to a key negotiator in the Trump administration's push to end the Russia-Ukraine war. The boyish Iraq War veteran, former venture capitalist and friend of Vice President JD Vance went from presenting President Donald Trump's plan to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv to sitting down with Russian officials in the United Arab Emirates on Monday and Tuesday, heading up the latest phase of talks on a possible deal to halt the fighting. Trump appears to believe Driscoll's efforts are going well, posting on social media that my team has made tremendous progress. In the hopes of finalizing this Peace Plan," Trump wrote Tuesday, I have directed my Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to meet with President Putin in Moscow and, at the same time, Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will be meeting with the ...

H-1B visa fee hike disruptive but may boost local hiring: Ex-Nasscom chief

US President Donald Trump's decision to raise H1-B visa fee to USD 1,00,000 annually poses significant cost challenges to Indian IT companies and will be disruptive in near term, said Former Chairman of Nasscom BVR Mohan Reddy on Saturday. He also said the move could also push Indian IT firms to accelerate local hiring in the US, strengthen global delivery from India, and move up the value chainturning a challenge into an opportunity for more resilient models. The sudden USD 100,000 H-1B visa fee poses significant cost challenges for Indian IT companies, and the one-day implementation timeline creates considerable uncertainty for ongoing projects. While this is disruptive in the near term, it also compels us to accelerate local hiring, strengthen global delivery from India, and move up the value chainturning a challenge into an opportunity for more resilient models Reddy told PTI.
