WPG Tour's 13th leg starts Wednesday

The 13th leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour will tee off here Wednesday with most of the regulars such as Amandeep Drall and Tvesa Malik in fray for the top honours. The event will see the return of Neha Tripathi and Gursimar Badwal, who were playing overseas, and Gaurika Bishnoi, who was occupied with her academics, the organisers said in a statement. The three will try and halt the run of Amandeep and Tvesa. In the previous leg, Tvesa won in a play off while Amandeep won the two legs before that. Tvesa will also be protecting her top spot on the Order of Merit. She has two wins this season and earnings aggregating just under Rs.11 lakhs in 12 starts. India kicks off SAFF Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on Wednesday

Defending champions India will start as overwhelming favourites against Sri Lanka in the opening encounter of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Wednesday. The Indian team is essentially an U-23 one with the exception of striker Sumeet Passi but it is coming into the tournament with more than a month long preparation. Manjit wants TOP Scheme inclusion after Asiad gold

Asian Games gold medallist Manjit Singh, who doesn't have a regular job, today requested the sports ministry to include him in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme to prepare for the upcoming big events like the 2020 Tokyo Games. Manjit, who won a gold in the men's 800m race in the Asian Games, was left without a job in March 2016 after the ONGC refused to extend his contract as he was not producing results. Despite the odds, he continued training under army coach Amrish Kumar before getting a National Camp call-up. "I lost my job in March 2016 as the ONGC refused to renew my contract. They said I was not producing results. I was getting stipends earlier," he said. "But now I have won a gold in Asian Games. I hope the sports ministry will take notice of my achievement and the hardships I am facing. I don't have any sponsor or any company giving me assistance. England name unchanged squad for fifth Test

England have named an unchanged squad for the fifth and final Test against India starting at the Oval on Friday. The Oval Test will incidentally be former skipper and England's highest run-scorer Alastair Cook's farewell game for his country. India will begin its seven-week home series against the West Indies with a Test match at Rajkot on October 4, less than a week after the completion of the Asia Cup. The BCCI today announced the fixtures of the home series against West Indies which will culminate on November 11.
