India skipper Virat Kohli on Saturday described Cheteshwar Pujara's 132 not out against England in the first innings of the ongoing fourth Test as the Saurashtra batsman's best innings that deserves to be at the top. "It is by far your best knock that I have seen, I thought Colombo was your top knock but this has to be at the top of the table," said Kohli during an interview with Pujara in BCCI.TV. Drawing a comparison with his Test hundred in 2016 in Colombo, Pujara hoped this innings turns out to be series defining. "Colombo was challenging but the situation here was even more challenging and the series which is quite balanced now, with that innings we are at commanding position and if we can bowl well today, we can get them out cheaply and win the Test match, so it could be a series defining knock," he said. Pujara added 32 runs with Ishant Sharma (14) and shared 46 runs with Jasprit Bumrah (6) to take India to 273 in the first innings. Kohli praised the tail-enders, who showed ...
India maintained upper hand after England skipper Joe Root was run-out for 48 as the home team reached 152 for 5 in their second innings at tea on the third day of the fourth Test. England now have an overall lead of 125 runs with Jos Buttler (22, 39 balls) and stodgy Ben Stokes (20, 79 balls) at the crease. This was after a well-set Root was back in the pavilion for 48 after Mohammed Shami's direct throw found him short of crease. Having removed Keaton Jennings (36) at the stroke of lunch, Mohammed Shami (2/40) was on a hat-trick when he removed Jonny Bairstow (0) off the very first ball post break. However Stokes and Root negotiated the Indian bowling well for the next 14 overs before the skipper didn't ground his bat properly while sprinting towards the striker's end. Shami bowled a sharp and precise spell, giving nothing away to the batsmen. It could be seen in how England only added 60 runs in the session, never getting ahead of the scoring rate, particularly as they were forced .

It was a day Lahiri would like to forget as he gave himself few chances and failed to grab the opportunities that came his way. Tiger Woods shot one-over 72 and was Tied-56th. Justin Rose, who missed the cut in the FedExCup Playoffs opener at Northern Trust, went home to the Bahamas for six days, and did not arrive till a day before the Dell Technologies Championship, which began on Friday and then he shot six-under 65 at the TPC Boston on a breezy day. Pakistan coach Roelant Oltmans says India were by far the best side in the Asian Games and should be disappointed to end their campaign with a below-par bronze medal. Oltmans, who was sacked as India coach last year, was appointed Pakistan coach in March. "They are by far the best team in Asia. It was surprising that they lost to Malaysia (in the semis). They should be disappointed," Oltmans told PTI after India beat Pakistan 2-1 in the third place play-off. Asked why Malaysia have proved to be tricky opponents for world number five India, who happens to have an upper hand against Pakistan of late, Oltmans said: "They should not have lost to Malaysia but the problem of conceding late goals is common with all Asian teams. "It is disappointing to lose to India today. I think we were better in the third and fourth quarter. But is still early days (for the development of the team). We are trying to build a proper structure and put Pakistan hockey back on track," said the Dutchman. Oltmans

The incident happened some years back and it's still vivid in the memory of Asian Games gold medallist bridge player Pranab Bardhan. The 60-year-old Bardhan was then getting ready to represent India in an international competition in Montreal but he needed to renew his passport. But the officer at the passport office, scrutinising his application form made an allegedly offensive remark. "He (passport officer) asked me, aap jua khelne Canada jaa rahein hain (you are going to Canada to take part in gambling). I told him you have not read my file properly. He was an educated man but still did not know, it's a sport and not gambling. Sensible people would not think like that," Bardhan, who today became India's oldest gold medal winner at the Asiad, spoke about how perceptions rule our society. Quintessential Bengalis love their adda sessions along with a game of carrom or cards. It's a way of life in those rickety club rooms in the narrow bylanes of Kolkata where people learn their ...
