North Korea boxing coaches kicked out of Asian Games for ring protest

Two North Korean coaches were kicked out of the Asian Games Saturday after mounting a protest in the ring after one of their boxers lost the women's flyweight final. Coach Pak Chol Jun refused to leave the ring and incited boxer Pang Chol Mi to remain behind in protest against the judging after China's Chang Yuan won gold on a 3-2 split decision. Both were eventually forced to leave by police and security staff after the nasty standoff marred the finale to the Asiad boxing competition. Another coach, Pak Il Nam, got into an angry frenzy outside the ring as he tried to whip up the crowd to jeer the decision. Both coaches had their Asian Games credentials immediately revoked and will now face disciplinary action by the International Boxing Association (AIBA). Sri Lanka recalls Malinga for Asia Cup

Sri Lanka's cricket selectors Saturday recalled fast bowler Lasith Malinga after an year in limbo and included him in a 16-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup tournament. The injury-prone 35-year-old had been largely ignored since his last ODI appearance in September last year against India in Colombo when he took just one wicket for 35 runs. Sri Lanka lost the match by six wickets. However, official sources said he had impressed selectors during an ongoing domestic T20 series and has now been included in the one-day squad for the Asia Cup tournament opening in the United Arab Emirates in two weeks. Odisha announces Rs 1 crore for 4 women hockey players

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday announced cash prize of Rs one crore each for the four players from the state in Indian Women Hockey team which bagged a silver medal in Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia. Patnaik, who congratulated the Indian Women's Hockey team on winning a silver, announced the award for the four players were in recognition of their achievements, said an official in Chief Minister's Office (CMO). The four players from Odisha in the team, which played in the final of Asian Games after a gap of 20 years, are Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Nilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka, the official said. Odisha is the proud sponsor of the Indian National Hockey Team. The state has always promoted hockey and is also the host of the World Men's Hockey Cup, 2018, a statement from the CMO said. As per the revised sports policy of the state, the coach will also get an award. The Indian women hockey team's dream of reclaiming the gold at the Asian Games after 36 years .

India prevail 2-1 over Pakistan, to go home with consolation bronze

India maintained their recent domination over arch-rivals Pakistan with a fighting 2-1 win to bag a consolation bronze medal after a below-par semifinal performance at the 18th Asian Games on Saturday. Akashdeep Singh scored a brilliant field goal in the third minute while Harmanpreet Singh extended India's advantage in the 50th minute off a penalty corner. Muhammad Atiq increased the heart rate of Indian fans reducing the margin in the 52nd minute from a counter-attack. Defending champions India beat arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1 in a keenly-contested match to bag a consolation bronze medal in the men's hockey competition at the 18th Asian Games on Saturday. The Indians, who were the pre-tournament favourites being the highest ranked side in the competition, scored through a field goal from Akashdeep Singh (3rd minute) and a penalty corner conversion by Harmanpreet Singh (50th). Asian Games: Indian women's squash team bags silver

The Indian women's squash team settled for a silver medal in the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games after suffering a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Hong Kong.India's Joshna Chinappa and Sunanya Kuruvilla lost their respective matches, while Dipika Pallikal didn't get a chance to compete at the final match of the tournament.In the first clash, Sunayna was defeated 0-1 by Hong Kong's Ho Tze Lok, following which Chinappa went head to head with Hong Kong champion Annie Au.
