WPL 2024: UP Warriorz' Ecclestone, Kiran fined for Code of Conduct breach

UP Warriorz's Sophie Ecclestone and Kiran Navgire were on Sunday fined 10 per cent of their match fees for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during their team's match against Delhi Capitals here. The duo was fined for breaching Article 2.2 of the WPL's code of conduct during the match on Friday. "Both Sophie and Kiran admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match," a WPL statement read. "For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," it added. The Warrioz eked out a thrilling one run win over the Delhi Capitals on the back of a sensational all-round display by Deepti Sharma. Deepti scored a half century before becoming the first Indian and only the second player to claim a hat-trick in the history of the league.

Big blow for Gujarat Titans! Wade to miss first two matches of IPL 2024

Matthew Wade will miss at least the first two matches of the IPL 2024 for Gujarat Titans as the wicketkeeper-batter will be playing in the Sheffield Shield final for Tasmania from March 21 to 25. This edition of the IPL is scheduled to begin from March 22. Last year's finalists Titans will play their first match against Mumbai Indians on March 25 and their second game is against Chennai Super Kings on March 27, and Wade will not be able to figure in them. However, the left-hander could be available for selection for Titans' third IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 31. "He's spoken with his IPL franchise and they're happy to allow him to stay here, which probably equates to him potentially missing their first game," Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan told reporters in Hobart. "We feel very fortunate to have someone of Matt's ilk coming back into our group, and his experience and his performances at the back end of our season," said Vaughan. Wade was part of GT's title-wi

IPL has made all three formats more competitive: League chairman Dhumal

The Indian Premier League has not only played an important role in talent identification over the years but has also made all three formats of the game more competitive, league chairman Arun Dhumal said on Friday. Since its maiden season in 2008, the IPL and T20 cricket have grown exponentially. Several players including the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh have gone on to get the coveted India cap after stellar performances in the lucrative league. "IPL has done a phenomenal job as far as the identification of new boys is concerned. We have seen, every season you will have very talented youngsters coming in like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh," Dhumal told PTI Video in an exclusive chat here. "They have then played for India also, so that way IPL has turned out to be a great tournament for the young talent and hopefully this season is going to be no different," he added. The IPL has become the world's second-richest sports .

India vs England: Rohit Sharma aces captaincy test in series of comebacks

The contest against England's 'Bazballers' was probably the biggest Test of Rohit Sharma's captaincy at home and not only did the India skipper ace it, he also got to "learn a lot" about his leadership in what he described as a "series of comebacks" India have been put under pressure in all the four Tests played thus far but after the Hyderabad debacle, the hosts managed to put the pressure back on the opposition to seal the series in Ranchi. The finale starts here on Thursday. Rohit struggled to define the 'Bazball' approach adopted by England but gave the opponents due credit. "Honestly, I don't know what Bazball means... whether it is to go and strike? whether it is to go and defend and wait for the loose ball? because I've not seen any wild swinging from anyone. I don't know exactly what this term means," Rohit said on Wednesday. "But yeah clearly they've played better cricket than the last series they were here. And you've got to give credit to two of their batters who got big

Shabnim Ismail bowls fastest delivery in women's cricket, breaches 130kph

South African pacer Shabnim Ismail created history by bowling the fastest delivery ever recorded in women's cricket, breaching the 130kph barrier for the first time since the introduction of speed guns. Playing for Mumbai Indians in their Women's Premier League (WPL) match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Ismail shattered the record by clocking 132.1km/h (82.08mph), her thunderbolt smashing into the pad of former Australia captain Meg Lanning. It was the second ball of the third over of the match on Tuesday, prompting the MI players to appeal in unison, only to be turned down by the umpire. Ismail, who appeared for South Africa in all eight previous ICC Women's T20 World Cups and only retired from international cricket following last year's tournament on home soil, had previously been clocked as bowling at 128km/h (79.54mph) against the West Indies in 2016 and at 127km/h twice during the most recent edition of the Women's World Cup in 2022. When asked during a ..

Skipper Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues smashed commanding fifties as Delhi Capitals thrashed Mumbai Indians by 29 runs in a top-of-the-table clash of the Women's Premier League (WPL) here on Tuesday. IPL 2024: James Franklin likely to replace Steyn as SRH bowling coach

Former New Zealand left-arm pacer James Franklin is likely to replace Dale Steyn as Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach in the upcoming IPL, beginning on March 22. Steyn, a former South African fast bowler, who took over as SRH bowling coach in 2022, has requested the franchise to give him a break for this season owing to personal reasons. "We are in talks with him (Franklin) as Dale Steyn will not be available for this season," an IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. The 43-year-old had earlier played for Mumbai Indians in the 2011 and 2021 seasons, but this is his maiden stint as coach in the IPL. Franklin, however, has coaching experience with Durham in English county cricket and Pakistan Super League team Islamabad United as assistant coach. At SRH, Franklin will link up with his former teammate Daniel Vettori, who was appointed as the team's head coach after IPL 2023. Earlier, they have worked together at Middlesex in county cricket as well as with Birmingham Phoeni
