ICC recieves BCCI's request related to Dhoni's army insignia

International Cricket Council (ICC), the apex cricketing body on Friday received the Board of Control for Cricket in India's request (BCCI) relating to the army insignia worn by wicket-keeper batsman M S Dhoni in India's match against South Africa on June 5."The BCCI's request has been received by the ICC and the discussions are going on with the Technical Committee," an ICC source said.Earlier, COA chief Vinod Rai said that the board had written a letter to the ICC not to remove wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni's army insignia. However, he also acknowledged if the apex cricketing body is against it, they will take permission."We are convinced that ICC rules say it should not have any religious, military or commercial significance, any insignia worn by any player. One should conform to ICC rules," Rai told reporters."In this particular case that insignia has none of those connotations so we are going to tell the ICC that it need not be removed but in any case if they feel, we will take .

India seeks permission for Dhoni's dagger insignia gloves; ICC unlikely to play ball

The dagger insignia on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's wicket-keeping gloves put India's cricket administrators on collision course with the ICC after the BCCI declined the world body's "request" to have it removed, instead seeking permission for the star player to sport it. Dhoni will continue sporting the insignia on his gloves as it is not a military symbol, asserted Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai. However, the world body is unlikely to accept that stand as the rule-book allows for only one sponsor's logo on the wicket-keeping gloves. In Dhoni's case, he already sports an SG logo on his gloves. Allowing the insignia would amount to "equipment sponsorship violation". During India's opening World Cup game against South Africa in Southampton, Dhoni's green keeping gloves had a dagger logo embossed, which looked more like an Army insignia. "The BCCI had already sent a formal request to the ICC for clearance. As per ICC regulations, players can't sport any commercial, ...

Jihadists kill 21 regime forces in Syria's northwest: Monitor

Jihadists in northwestern Syria on Thursday launched an attack on government forces killing at least 21 fighters, a war monitor said, following a series of regime advances in the area. The deadly assault in a northern strip of Hama province, comes amid an escalation in violence in parts of the country's northwest held by Syria's former Al-Qaeda affiliate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Damascus and its ally Russia have since late April ramped up deadly air strikes and rocket fire on the region, and fighters have clashed on its edges. Thursday's attack by HTS militants and allied jihadist groups on the village of Jibeen, follow a series of regime advances in the region in recent weeks, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said. "The insurgents are launching a counterattack," Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP. "They are making strategic advances," he said, adding that they have seized several hilltops. He said at least 14 jihadists were killed in ensuing ...
