Pulwama encounter: 4 terrorists killed

Four terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in a village in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said on Friday.The encounter broke out last night in Panjran village of the district's Lassirpora area, the public relations officer (Defence) said. The security forces have seized three AK series rifles from the site of the gunfight.A search operation is underway.

Jihadists kill 21 regime forces in Syria's northwest: Monitor

Jihadists in northwestern Syria on Thursday launched an attack on government forces killing at least 21 fighters, a war monitor said, following a series of regime advances in the area. The deadly assault in a northern strip of Hama province, comes amid an escalation in violence in parts of the country's northwest held by Syria's former Al-Qaeda affiliate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). 100 Cameroon opposition members freed: Party

A hundred members of the opposition Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC) were freed Thursday following their arrest during demonstrations last week, the party told AFP. However MRC vice president Mamadou Mota, who was also detained on June 1, remains in detention, the same opposition party source said. "Today 100 of our members, arrested on Saturday... have been freed," said lawyer Christopher Ndong, secretary general of the MRC. In all, 351 MRC supporters were arrested during protests which took place in several towns throughout the country, including Nkongsamba, in the west, and Yaounde, according to the party's figures. "There are still 251 people incarcerated in prison cells," said Ndong. At least 30 of those arrested, including Mota, have been transferred to Yaounde's main prison. 2 SPOs go missing in J-K, probe underway

Police Thursday initiated investigations after two special police officers (SPOs) failed to report back at district police lines in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesman said. Although the spokesman did not elaborate, there have been several instances in the past where security personnel, including SPOs, have joined terror groups. "Two SPOs have not reported back at police lines in Pulwama. Police have launched investigation into the matter, " the spokesman said.

NIA files charge sheet in case of weapons loot from ex-PDP MLA's house

The NIA Thursday filed a charge sheet in connection with a case of loot of weapons, including seven AK series assault rifles, from the residence of a former PDP MLA in Jammu and Kashmir. The agency named Adil Bashir Sheikh, a special police officer (SPO) deployed at the Srinagar residence of Wachi MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir, and Rafique Ahmad Bhat, a militant, as it filed the prosecution complaint before a special court in Jammu. They have been charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act, the agency said. Seven AK rifles, a pistol and some other ammunition were looted from the MLA's house on September 28 last year. The NIA took over the case from state police. Lanka SC appoints bench to hear pleas against former IGP, defence secretary

One dead, 22 injured in West Point training accident

One US military trainee was killed and 22 trainees and soldiers were injured in an accident Thursday at the US Military Academy at West Point, New York, the academy said. The trainee, known as a cadet, was killed when a flatbed truck-like troop transporter known as a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle reportedly rolled near the elite West Point officers academy. Two Pakistani soldiers were killed Thursday when suspected militants opened fire on a vehicle of the paramilitary troops deployed on Eid security duty in the restive Balochistan province.
