Partly cloudy morning in Delhi, respite from heat likely later in the day

It was a partly cloudy Wednesday morning in the national capital, with the minimum temperature settling at 31 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average. Delhiites may get some respite from the oppressive heat as gusty winds and thunderstorm are likely in the later half of the day, a Meteorological Department official said. The maximum temperature would be around 42 degrees Celsius, he said. Relative humidity was 47 per cent at 8.30 am, the official added. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in the city was 44.5 degrees Celsius, five degrees above the season's average.

Jammu sizzles at 43.6 degrees Celsius

Heat wave conditions in Jammu continued unabated on Tuesday, with the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording a high of 43.6 degrees Celsius, the meteorological department said. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 31.2 degrees Celsius, it said. Monday recorded the season's highest temperature at 44.4 degree Celsius. May 31 is the second hottest day with a high of 44.1 degrees Celsius.

Delhiites to get slight relief from scorching heat

Delhiites may get slight relief from heat wave conditions as the meteorological department has forecast a fall in mercury over the next few days. The Safdarjung Observatory, reading of which is considered official for the city, recorded a high of 44.5 degrees Celsius, five notches above season's average Tuesday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 30.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. Humidity levels fluctuated between 52 per cent and 15 per cent in the city. The Palam observatory recorded a maximum of 45.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 33.3 degrees Celsius. Lodhi Road saw a maximum of 45 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature of 30.1 degrees Celsius; Ridge a maximum of 46.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 33 degrees Celsius; and Ayanagar a high of 45.7 degrees Celsius and a low of 32 degrees Celsius. Heat wave rages on; 4 elderly pilgrims die of heat in train

Several parts of the country continued to reel under sweltering heat Tuesday with mercury crossing the 45-degree mark, even as four elderly pilgrims travelling on a train from Agra to Coimbatore died due to extreme heat. The pilgrims, hailing from Tamil Nadu, were travelling in non-AC coaches of Kerala Express. They complained of uneasiness and by the time, the train reached Jhansi, three of them died. One of the pilgrims died in a hospital, officials said. Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh has been experiencing severe heat wave in the recent weeks. It recorded a high of 48 degrees Celsius Tuesday. Andhra Pradesh to experience heat wave for 3 days: AWARE

: Andhra Pradesh would witness extreme heat wave conditions for the next three days due to the delayed arrival of the southwest monsoon, coupled with cyclone 'Vayu' in the Arabian Sea, a weather forecasting centre said Tuesday. Temperature in the next three days (June 12 to 14) might touch 43-45 degree Celsius in several districts of central and south coastal Andhra, the Andhra Pradesh Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Research Centre (AWARE) said. West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, SPS Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Vizianagaram districts could bear the brunt of the heat wave. Moisture has transposed from high pressure to low pressure area because of Vayu cyclone in the Arabian Sea. Due to this, central and south coastal districts in the state would experience high temperature in the next three days, AWARE said in a press release. 13 places in Odisha record temp above 40 degree Celsius

Sweltering heat wave intensified in Odisha on Tuesday with the temperature soaring above 40 degree Celsius in at least 13 places in the state. While the entire western region sizzled under boiling heat, coastal and interior areas of the state also encountered unbearable weather conditions due to rising temperature coupled with high level of relative humidity. Sambalpur in western Odisha turned out to be the hottest place in the state recording 45 degree Celsius followed by 44.4 degree in neighbouring Hirakud and 44.2 degree in Jharsuguda, the Meteorological Centre here said. HP gets some respite from scorching heat after light rains

People of Himachal Pradesh got some respite from the scorching heat as light rains lashed isolated parts of the state on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said. The maximum temperatures decreased by around 2 degrees, the Metrological Department said. Shimla and Kufri were lashed by 8 mm rains each, followed by Bhuntar 3 mm, Manali 2 mm, Chamba and Baghi 1 mm each and Kangra recorded 0.1 mm rains. Relief from sweltering heat likely over next few days: MeT dept

With mercury touching an all-time high of 48degC in the national capital on Monday, the Indian Met Office has said there will be respite from the sweltering heat in the next few days as temperatures are expected to dip."Earlier, the wind used to come from the western side of Rajasthan. However, the direction of the wind has changed. As a result, we have witnessed a temperature fall of two-three degrees in all the North Indian states. It is expected to continue for the next three days and there will be a full respite to the heat wave in the region," a senior MeT Department official told ANI."Except for Western Rajasthan, we can expect a slight fall of temperature in North Indian states/ Various places in Jammu and Kashmir and other states received rainfall due to the western disturbance. Haryana, Punjab continue to reel under intense heatwave conditions

Haryana and Punjab Tuesday continued to be under the grip of severe heatwave as maximum temperatures hovered close 45 degrees Celsius at most places. Hisar in Haryana and Patiala in Punjab sizzled, recording identical maximums of 45.5 degrees Celsius, up by four and seven notches, respectively, a Meteorological Department report said here. Intense heatwave conditions also swept Bhiwani at 45.3 degrees Celsius while Karnal and Narnaul recorded above normal maximums of 44 degrees Celsius each. Ambala and Karnal recorded a high of 44.8 degrees Celsius and 44.4 degrees Celsius, respectively. Chandigarh sizzled at 43.9 degrees Celsius, up by five notches against normal. Ludhiana in Punjab recorded the maximum temperature at 45.2 degrees Celsius, up by seven notches while Amritsar's maximum settled at 44.8 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal.

Extreme weather, rain expected in Mumbai ahead of cyclone Vayu on June 13: IMD

The cyclone Vayu is expected to reach the city's latitude on Wednesday morning, leading to extreme weather and rain, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday."The cyclone is expected to hit between Porbandar and Veraval in Gujarat on the morning of June 13. It will be a severe cyclonic storm with wind gusting at the speed of 135 Kmph," said KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General, Meteorology.Hosalikar said the cyclone is expected to reach Mumbai's latitude on Wednesday morning. "The Cyclone is currently moving at the speed of 540 Kmph south-west of Mumbai," he said.Fishermen in the open ocean have been called back and people living near the coast have also been instructed about the course of action by the local authorities.IMD is keeping track of the speed and movement of the cyclone and releasing a bulletin every three hours. Cyclonic storm Vayu to cross Gujarat coast on Jun 13: IMD

A dust storm is expected to hit the national capital Tuesday afternoon, MeT officials said, as the city witnessed a cloudy sky in the morning. The minimum temperature was recorded at 30.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. While southwest monsoon has made its onset in Kerala, there are no favourable monsoon conditions for next five days in Odisha, the Meteorological Department has predicted."Odisha doesn't have a favourable condition for monsoon for the next 4 to 5 days. Monsoon likely to make landfall around June 18 in Chhattisgarh

Much-awaited monsoon is expected to hit Chhattisgarh around June 18 and will cover the entire state by June 23, Meteorological Centre in Raipur has predicted."Monsoon reached Kerala at least eight days late. So it's expected to enter Chhattisgarh around June 18 and cover the entire state within next five days after that.
