We will also fix MCD schools gradually and all our councillors will work hard to improve them. Handing over the awards, Kejriwal said transformation of the education system in Delhi would not be possible without the efforts of teachers, students and parents. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hailed the Supreme Court decisions on Thursday on the appointment of election commissioners and matters involving the business empire of industrialist Gautam Adani as landmark orders. The apex court ruled on Thursday that the appointments of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners will be made by the president on the advise of a committee comprising the prime Minister, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha and the chief justice of India. In a separate matter, it ordered the setting up of a six-member committee headed by former top court judge AM Sapre to probe the recent share crash of the Adani Group triggered by short-seller Hindenburg Research's fraud allegations and other regulatory aspects related to the stock markets. "Truly landmark orders by Hon'ble SC on both EC and Adani issues. We welcome both the orders," Kejriwal said in a tweet. Earlier in the day, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), headed by Kejriwal, said the apex
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested liquor businessman Amandeep Dhal, director of Brindco Sales Pvt Ltd, in connection with its ongoing money laundering investigation into the Delhi excise policy, officials said on Thursday. Dhal was taken into custody on Wednesday night under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following his questioning, they said. He is expected to be produced before a local court on Thursday where the ED will seek his custody. According to a CBI FIR, AAP functionary Vijay Nair, Manoj Rai, Amandeep Dhal and Sameer Mahandru were actively involved in framing and implementation of the excise policy of the Delhi government for the year 2021-22. The money laundering case of the ED stems from the CBI FIR. Till now, the ED has filed two chargesheets or prosecution complaints in this case and has arrested a total of 10 people, including Dhal. Senior AAP leader Atishi, who is set to become the first woman minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet, has been a key member of the team tasked with implementing the party's educational reforms in the national capital. Atishi, along with AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, are the two leaders whose names have been forwarded for appointment as ministers after Kejriwal's trusted lieutenants Manish Sisodia and Satyender Jain, both arrested on corruption charges, resigned from their Cabinet posts. Bharadwaj (43) is the party's national spokesperson and currently serving as the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board. The two leaders are usually at the forefront in interactions with media and during various protests organised by the party. Speaking to PTI, Bharadwaj said, "The Centre wanted to stop the work done in Delhi and we will not let that happen. We are thankful to the CM for having faith in me and Atishi, and we will continue to work for the people of Delhi." Atishi (41), who
The AAP will launch a door-to-door campaign from March 5 under which all MLAs will apprise people about the "false cases" registered against party leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, official sources said on Wednesday. The decision, taken at a meeting between Kejriwal and AAP MLAs, came a day after Sisodia and Jain resigned from the Delhi Cabinet. While Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22, Jain is lodged in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case since May last year. "From March 5, we will go door to door and speak with the people of Delhi and explain to them how our two innocent ministers are being trapped in false cases. We will also hold street meetings ('nukkad sabha')," a source said. Senior AAP leader Atishi, who is set to become the first woman minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet, has been a
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called a meeting of AAP MLAs and MCD councillors on Wednesday to discuss the party's strategies in the light of recent developments, sources said. The meeting will be held at the chief minister's residence, a day after ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, both arrested on corruption charges, resigned from the Cabinet. "During the meeting, there is likely going to be a discussion on what the party will do following the events that have unfolded in the last few days," a source said. While Sisodia, who was handling 18 of the total 33 departments in the Delhi government, was arrested on Sunday evening by the CBI in the Delhi excise policy case, Jain, currently lodged in Tihar jail, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in May last year in connection with a money laundering case. However, Jain continued to be a minister in the Delhi government without any portfolios. Sources said both the resignations were sent to Delhi Lieutenant
The development comes after Manish Sisodia, who headed 18 departments, and Satyendra Jain, who has been in jail for months in a money laundering case, stepped down as ministers on Tuesday
After two jailed ministers of the Aam Aadmi party (AAP) -- Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain -- stepped down, Delhi CM Kejriwal has forwarded the names of two party leaders for their appointment
The Congress on Tuesday said AAP leader Manish Sisodia has been arrested in an "open and shut case of corruption" and that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should also be arrested for his alleged involvement in the excise policy case. The two leaders are "deeply involved in corruption" and should be dealt with accordingly, Congress leader Ajay Maken said. Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22. "This is an open and shut case of corruption and a big scam has taken place in Delhi, and it should be viewed accordingly," Maken said. He said Kejriwal should also be arrested in the case. "It has now been established in one of the charge sheets and one of the accused liquor barons has said he was made to speak to Kejriwal on Facetime," he added. The Kejriwal government had set up a committee to recommend changes in the ex

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accepted their resignations, officials said. Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22. Jain is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in a money laundering case.
Hitting out at the AAP government over the now-scrapped excise policy, the BJP on Tuesday said it will raise awareness on the "conspiracy" that was hatched to "toy" with the future of youths in Delhi by allowing "proliferation" of liquor vends. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, the party's national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the "proponents of new politics" didn't even refrain from taking steps that would have drowned Delhi youths in a state of inebriation. He said the party has decided to raise awareness on the issue, as "for us, it is not just a issue of corruption", but is also about the "future of youths in Delhi". Trivedi tore into Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who was arrested by the CBI on Sunday evening in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22. "It must be an unusual thing, that in Delhi 'Shiksha Mantri' (education minister) and 'Sharab Mantri' (excise ...
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has sought details of ongoing and upcoming projects of various MCD departments, including public health, sanitation and environment management, sources said on Tuesday. Oberoi was elected as the mayor of the city on February 22 and had taken charge on the same day. "The mayor has written to the municipal commissioner, seeking all details from various departments of the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi), about the status of ongoing works and projects, and planned projects," an official source said. Shortly after being elected as mayor, Oberoi had said the Aam Aadmi Party-led municipal corporation will carry out an inspection of landfill sites in the next three days and also work to deliver the party's 10 "guarantees" promised to the people before the December 4 MCD polls. The mayor has sought information from departments of public health, horticulture, engineering, sanitation and environment management services, and education, among others. The departme
The BJP on Monday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party over its street protests against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's arrest, asserting that the CBI is acting lawfully against the "corrupt" and demanding CM Arvind Kejriwal's resignation for the arrest of two of his ministers in cases of alleged corruption. The law is taking its own course and probe agencies are working lawfully, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told reporters after Sisodia was sent to the CBI remand till March 4. The "kattar beimaan party" (hardcore dishonest party) respects neither courts, nor laws or people, he claimed, accusing Kejriwal of orchestrating the anarchic protests against Sisodia's arrest. If the AAP believes that the CBI's action is driven by political malice as it has alleged, then it should have gone to court as the probe in the suspected corruption in the framing of excise policy had been going on for months. Neither does Kejriwal abide by law nor he sacks his ministers involved in corrupti
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday claimed that most of the CBI officers were opposed to arresting his deputy Manish Sisodia but did so due to political pressure. The CBI on Sunday arrested Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the now-scrapped excise policy relating to the sale of alcohol. "I am told that most CBI officers were against Manish's arrest. All of them have huge respect for him and there is no evidence against him. But the political pressure to arrest him was so high that they had to obey their political masters," Kejriwal said in a tweet. Sisodia's arrest, one of the high-profile actions against an opposition leader, came after that of Satyendar Jain, Delhi's then health minister, in June last year. Both ministers have led what the Aam Aadmi Party describes as the successful transformation of Delhi's education and health services, contributing to the party's popularity and continued electoral success.
Sisodia has not only been the face of AAP's education policy in Delhi but also heads as many as 18 of the total 33 departments
