465 fresh coronavirus cases take Assam's tally to nearly 207,000

Assam's COVID-19 caseload went up to 2,06,982 after 465 more people tested positive for the virus on Monday, while one fresh fatality took the death toll to 932, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. Sarma said that 785 patients also recovered from the infection, pushing the number of cured people to 1,97,566. The state registered more recoveries than new infections for the 19th consecutive day on Monday. Assam currently has a total of 8,481 active cases. Three patients have migrated to other states. "Sad to share the demise of one #COVID patient today... Condolences & Prayers," Sarma said on Twitter. The new death was reported from Hojai district. With this, the total number of people losing their lives due to COVID-19 in the state has gone up to 932. 336 fresh coronavirus cases take Assam's total tally to over 2,00,000

The COVID-19 deaths in Assam increased to 930 on Saturday with four more persons succumbing to the disease, while 336 new infections pushed the state's caseload to 2,06,351, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. He said that 1,386 patients also recovered from the infection, taking the total number of cured people to 1,96,051. The state recorded more recoveries than fresh infections for the 17th consecutive day, Sarma said. Assam currently has a total of 9,367 active cases, the minister said adding that three patients have migrated out of the state. "Four more #COVID patients succumbed to their infections today... My condolences & prayers!" Sarma said on Twitter. The fresh fatalities were reported from Nagaon, Golaghat, Dima Hasao and Bongaigaon districts. Assam's Kaziranga National Park reopens after seven months due to Covid-19

The Kaziranga National Park (KNP), famed for one-horned rhinoceros, was opened to tourists on Wednesday, after being closed for seven months due to COVID-19 pandemic. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally reopened the KNP and expressed hope that this will revive the states tourism sector which has been severely hit by the pandemic. The KNP remains shut for around five months every year since April-end during the monsoon season when floods also occur in the state. The Park was closed in March this year after the government imposed lockdown. Sonowal said that unemployed youths in and around Kaziranga would find meaningful employment again through jeep safari and other tourism-related activities.
