Sony's profit disappoints as weaker games biz overshadows record result

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Sony Corp reported lower-than-expected profit on Friday as its previously thriving gaming business sagged, though a one-off gain related to its acquisition of EMI nevertheless pushed the quarterly result to a record high.

Zinc up 0.51% on firm spot demand, global cues

Zinc prices rose 0.51 per cent to Rs 195.95 per kg in futures trade Friday as traders created fresh positions following pick up in demand in the spot markets amid positive overseas cues. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in February traded higher by 80 paise, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 195.95 per kg in business turnover of 6,410 lots. Market analysts said apart from positive overseas cues, rising demand from consuming industries in spot markets led to rise in zinc futures here.

No hike in passenger fare, freight charges as Rlys gets highest ever allocation of Rs 1.58 lakh cr

There has been no hike in passenger fare and freight charges in the Interim Budget announced by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal Friday, which also saw the highest ever capital expenditure allocation of Rs 1.58 lakh crore for the national transporter. With Lok Sabha elections slated to be held in April-May, hikes in fares were not expected. Last year, then finance minister Arun Jaitley had allocated an amount of Rs 1.48 lakh crore for the Railways in his budget. Goyal, who is also the Railway minister, said so far 2018-2019 has been the safest for the Indian Railways and all unmanned level crossings on the broad gauge network have been completely eliminated. "Capital expenditure programme of the Railways is at all-time high of Rs 1.58 lakh crore in next financial year. Government will make one lakh villages into Digital Villages over next five years: Piyush Goyal

The Common Service Centres are expanding their services and also creating digital infrastructure in the villages, including connectivity, to convert the villages into Digital Villages, said Piyush Goyal. More than 3 lakh Common Service Centres (CSCs) employing about 12 lakh people, are digitally delivering several services to the citizens, he added.
