The two major trader associations in Tamil Nadu have again announced a war against multinational company (MNC)-made colas like Coke and Pepsi by deciding not to stock these and other such products of MNCs, a top association official said on Thursday.
Aluminium prices edged up by 0.36 per cent to Rs 151.30 per kg in futures market Thursday after speculators built up fresh positions amid an uptick in demand at the spot market. On the Multi commodity Exchange (MCX), aluminium for delivery in current month edged higher by 55 paise, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 151.30 per kg in a business turnover of 1,656 lots. Analysts said fresh positions created by traders after demand from consuming industries picked up in the physical market, mainly led to the rise in aluminium prices in the futures trade.

Coriander prices rose 1.75 per cent to Rs 7,606 per quintal in futures market Thursday on rising spot demand. Besides, tight stocks on account of restricted arrivals from major growing regions weighed on coriander futures. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, coriander for June contracts edged higher by Rs 131, or 1.75 per cent, to Rs 7,606 per quintal with an open interest of 28,240 lots. Market analysts attributed the rise in coriander futures to upsurge in demand in the physical market against tight stocks position. On similar lines, the delivery for May was trading higher by Rs 155, or 2.05 per cent, to Rs 7,708 per quintal with an open interest of 8,150 lots.

Castor seed prices rose by Rs 82 to Rs 5,918 per quintal in futures trade Thursday as investors widened their bets amid firm trends. Apart from rising demand from consuming industries, short position of stocks in the spot markets led to the rise in castor seed futures, analysts said. On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castor seed contracts for June were trading higher by Rs 82, or 1.41 per cent, at Rs 5,918 per quintal with an open interest of 2,44,635 lots. Castor seed contracts for July rose by Rs 76, or 1.28 per cent, to Rs 6,018 per quintal with an open interest of 49,725 lots.

Nickel prices were down by 0.11 per cent to Rs 855.80 per kg in futures trade Thursday on sluggish demand at the spot market. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in current month declined by 90 paise, or 0.11 per cent, to Rs 855.80 per kg, in a business turnover of 10,289 lots. Market analysts said, the fall in nickel prices was mostly due to muted demand from alloy-makers in the domestic spot market.
