West Bengal reports 817 new Covid-19 cases, 26 fresh fatalities

West Bengal's COVID-19 tally rose to 20,08,950 on Thursday as 817 people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. Twenty-six fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 20,938. Kolkata reported the highest number of 135 new cases, followed by 133 in neighbouring North 24 Parganas district. North 24 Parganas district registered five fatalities, while four deaths each were reported in Kolkata and Paschim Bardhaman districts. The number of active cases dipped by 590 and stood at 14,805. As many as 1,381 more people were cured of the disease, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,73,207, while the discharge rate improved to 98.22 per cent. The state has thus far tested over 2.36 crore samples for COVID-19, including 45,495 in the last 24 hours.

Covid-19 pandemic: 43 new cases push Sikkim's caseload to 38,868

Sikkim's COVID-19 tally rose to 38,868 on Thursday as 43 more people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. The Himalayan state's coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 437 as no fresh fatality was recorded. East Sikkim registered the highest number of 31 new cases, followed by 11 in West Sikkim and one in North Sikkim. Sikkim now has 541 active cases, while 37,148 people have recovered from the disease so far, and 742 patients have migrated to other states to date. The recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state stood at 97.4 per cent. Sikkim has thus far tested over 3.2 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 1,108 in the last 24 hours, it said, adding that the daily positivity rate stood at 3.9 per cent.

Coronavirus pandemic: Assam logs 294 new cases and five deaths

Assam on Thursday reported 294 new COVID-19 cases, 21 less than the previous day's figure, pushing the tally to 7,22,977, according to a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission. Five fresh fatalities raised the death toll to 6,590 while 1,347 COVID patients have died due to other causes. Altogether 30,008 samples were tested for coronavirus during the day and the positivity rate is 0.98 per cent. The North-eastern state has so far tested 2,81,43,320 samples. The number of active cases now is 4,421. Jorhat, Bishwanath, Golaghat, Kamrup Metropolitan and Nalbari district each recorded one Covid fatality while the current death rate is 0.91 per cent, the bulletin said. Of the new positive cases, Kamrup Metropolitan district reported the highest at 88, followed by 18 in Jorhat and 17 each in Barpeta and Goalpara. Covid-19 pandemic: Karnataka reports 5,019 new cases and 39 deaths

Karnataka on Thursday reported 5,019 new cases of COVID-19 and 39 fatalities, taking the tally to 39,17,119 and toll to 39,534. There were 13,923 discharges today, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,25,538, a Health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 2,315 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 5,739 people being discharged and 17 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 52,013. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 4.25 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.77 per cent. Of the 39 deaths, 17 are from Bengaluru Urban, Tumakuru (5), Dakshina Kannada (3), Dharwad and Mysuru (2), followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru recorded the second highest number of cases with 261, followed by Tumakuru (234), Ballari (220), Belagavi (196), Kodagu (171) and Shivamogga (141) among others. Mumbai reports 429 Covid-19 cases, positivity rate falls to 1%

Mumbai reported 429 new coronavirus cases and two deaths on Thursday, the city civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a release. The city reported fewer than 500 cases on the fourth straight day. The tally of coronavirus infections in the country's financial capital rose to 10,53,046, while the death toll reached 16,678. The positivity rate (number of infections detected per 100 tested samples) has come down to one per cent, municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said. "Ever since Mumbai's covid positivity rate increased to touch 1 per cent on December 21, 2021, today... the positivity is back to one per cent again," he said in the statement. Prince Charles tests positive for Covid for the second time

Prince Charles, the heir to the Biritish throne, has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time and is now self-isolating, Clarence House said on Thursday. The positive result of the Prince of Wales, who has received three vaccination shots, was announced on Twitter moments before he was due to arrive at an engagement in Winchester.
