Covid: 498 new cases, 1 more death in Delhi; positivity rate 3.57%

Delhi on Sunday recorded 498 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.57 per cent, while one more person died due to the viral disease, according to data shared by the health department here. With this, the capital's COVID-19 caseload climbed to 19,44,015, while the death toll rose to 26,292, the bulletin stated. The fresh cases came out of 13,959 tests conducted the previous day, it said. Delhi had on Saturday recorded 491 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.48 per cent and two fatalities. The city had on Friday logged 601 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.64 per cent, and zero death. The capital saw 520 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.44 per cent and one death on Thursday. Of the 9,490 beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi hospitals, only 111 were occupied on Sunday. Beds at Covid care centres and Covid health centres are lying vacant, the bulletin said. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Delhi stands at 1,974, up from 1,894 the previous day. As

Delhi anganwadi workers to meet LG for reversing terminations over protest

The anganwadi workers' union is slated to meet Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Saturday to demand the reinstatement of its workers, the body has said. The LG agreed to meet the Delhi State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (DSAWHU), after workers whose services were terminated staged a protest outside his residence on Wednesday, the union officials said. Earlier, the members of the union had gathered at the Raj Niwas Marg with banners and raised slogans against the LG and the Delhi government, demanding a hike in their pay and reinstatement of terminated workers and helpers. DSAWHU has claimed that 884 Anganwadi workers have been issued termination notices and 11,942 given show-cause notices by the Delhi government for participating in a 39-day strike.

Delhi wall collapse: LG says probe underway into 'unfortunate incident'

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Friday said a probe is underway into the "unfortunate" wall collapse incident in the capital's Alipur area that claimed the lives of five people. Nine people were also injured after the wall of an under-construction godown collapsed in Alipur this afternoon, according to police. "Saddened at the tragic loss of precious lives in a wall collapse in Alipur, North Delhi. The reasons behind the unfortunate incident are being inquired (into) and the injured are being provided necessary medical aid," Saxena said in a tweet. According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the wall was being constructed on private land in Bakoli village and the sub-divisional magistrate had issued a restraining order on the construction. A case has been registered in the matter and two people have been arrested, the police said.
