DTC electric bus catches fire in Hauz Khas, no casualties reported

An electric bus of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) gutted in a fire in the Hauz Khas area here on Sunday morning, officials of the Delhi Fire Services said. No casualties were reported in the incident, the DTC officials said. "The driver and the bus conductor acted immediately and asked all the passengers to get down, which averted a major incident," an official of the DFS said. Officials said that they received information around 11.10 am. Three fire tenders were pressed into service near the Padmini Enclave area. It took about an hour for the firefighters to douse the flames, officials said. However, the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. Bus number 502 was on route from Old Delhi towards Mehrauli.

Severe heatwave: Unrelenting heat disrupts daily life in swathes of India

The national capital recorded 44.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, with the weather office issuing a 'red alert' due to severe heat wave conditions in the city. Bibhav files police complaint against Maliwal, alleges she hurled abuses

Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar Friday filed a police complaint against AAP MP Swati Maliwal, alleging she breached the security of the chief minister's residence to gain unauthorised entry on May 13 and created a ruckus there, the party said. It also said that when Kumar tried to stop her she hurled abuses at him. Swati Maliwal assault case: Police collect evidence from CM house

A team of Delhi Police accompanied by forensic experts visited Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence here Friday and collected evidence in connection with the alleged assault on party MP Swati Maliwal there, officials said. They said a police team also went to the home of chief minister aide Bibhav Kumar, who Maliwal has accused of beating her up, but he was not present. The police team that visited the chief minister's Civil Lines residence was led by Additional DCP (north) Anjitha Chepyala and there were three other officers. Slight decrease in road accident fatalities has been witnessed in Delhi in the first five months of this year, according to the data released by the Delhi Police. The data stated that up till May 15, a total of 518 people lost their lives in 511 accidents. This marks a decrease from the 552 deaths recorded in 544 crashes during the same period last year. "We have identified different locations like National Highway-24, NH-8, Ring Road, Rohtak Road, GT Road, and Mathura Road are among the top ten roads in Delhi where the highest number of fatal crashes have occurred this year so far. Delhi sees hottest day of season at 42.5 deg Celsius; IMD sounds red alert

The national capital on Saturday recorded the this season's hottest day so far with the mercury reaching 43.7 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said and issued a 'red alert' predicting severe heat in many parts of the city over the next two days. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar did not appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Friday in connection with alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal. EC's home voting facility for elders, PwDs kicks off for Delhi LS polls

The home voting facility for the elderly voters and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in all seven parliamentary constituencies of Delhi kicked off on Thursday. Air pollution: Delhi's AQI turns 'poor'; experts cite unfavourable weather

The national capital's air quality dipped to the 'poor' category on Wednesday due to unfavourable meteorological conditions and stubble burning and forest fires in neighbouring states, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said. The city's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) rose to 243 by 4 pm, prompting the CAQM, a statutory body tasked by the Centre with planning and implementing air pollution reduction strategies in Delhi-NCR, to convene a review meeting with experts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology. The 24-hour average AQI noted on Sunday was 183 in the 'moderate' category, after which the index entered the 'poor' category with a reading of 227 on Monday and 234 on Tuesday. The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking removal of Arvind Kejriwal as the Delhi chief minister after his arrest in a money laundering case, holding that the petitioner had no legal right to seek his ouster. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta said resignation in such circumstances is a matter of propriety but there is no legal right to seek removal of Kejriwal as the chief minister following his arrest. "What is the legal right? On propriety you may certainly have something to say, but there is no legal right. It's up to the LG (Lieutenant Governor) to take action if he wants to. We are not inclined to entertain this (petition)," the bench told petitioner Kant Bhati's counsel. The bench, while dismissing the appeal challenging the April 10 order of the Delhi High Court said, "When the matter (Kejriwal's petition against arrest) was being heard, we had posed the same question to them. Ultimately, it is a matter of propriety and there is no legal right."
