Dead bodies of 7 children found from water canal in Lucknow after 35-hrs rescue operation

After a thirty-five hour-long rescue operation, dead bodies of all seven children, who drowned after a vehicle fell inside the canal, were fished out, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) here on Friday."We have found dead bodies of all 7 children who drowned in the canal. The rescue operation by NDRF and SDRF is now complete. There is an environment of grief among the family members of these children" said, Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP.A vehicle carrying around 29 people fell into the canal in Nagaram on Thursday morning after which the rescue operation was underway for last 35 hours.District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma told reporters here that all 29 people in the truck were from the same family and were residents of Barabanki district."They were returning from a wedding at night when the truck fell inside the canal. The accident took place at around 3 in the morning", he added.

Mortal remains of Squadron leader H Vinod who lost his life in Indian Air force (IAF) AN-32 crash, was brought to Sulur for performing the last rites on Friday.Vinod's family including his wife and mother were present to receive the mortal remains.IAF on Thursday recovered the mortal remains of 13 of its personnel killed in AN-32 plane crash."The mortal remains of 13 brave air-warriors have been recovered and sent to the Air Force Station, Jorhat," IAF spokesperson Wg Cdr Ratnakar Singh said on Thursday.On June 3, an IAF AN-32 aircraft, which took off from the Air Force Station, Jorhat in Assam, went missing with 13 air-warriors onboard.The wreckage was found on June 11 on a mountain slope in Arunachal Pradesh. All of the 13 air-warriors died in the crash.

Six sheds in industrial area gutted in fire, none hurt

At least six sheds located in an industrial area at Valiv in the district were gutted in a major fire, officials said Friday. The incident occurred late Thursday night, in which nobody was injured, they said. "The blaze started shortly before midnight on Thursday in Merchant Industrial Estate in Vasai taluka. Six sheds, where lamination paper rolls, chemicals and other material were stored, were gutted in the fire," Kishore Patil, fire officer of Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation said. Six fire engines were pressed into service and efforts to douse the flames continued till 6 am on Friday, he added. According to Patil, these sheds belonged to three companies. A probe has been launched to ascertain the cause of the fire, he said.

Huge fire breaks out at Philadelphia oil refinery

A huge blaze erupted at a Philadelphia oil refinery early Friday, sending a fireball into the sky and forcing residents to stay off nearby roads, local media and officials said. Footage on the East Coast city's NBC affiliate station showed plumes of smoke towering from the Philadelphia Energy Solutions (PES) refining complex. The blaze in south Philadelphia broke out around 4:00 am (0800 GMT) when a series of explosions occurred, according to NBC10. The fire could be seen for miles. As many as 17 accidents out of the total 59 in 2018-19 due to track defects: Railways

The Railways on Friday told the Parliament that 17 accidents out of the total 59 in 2018-19 had taken place due to track defects. Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said there were 20 accidents in 2015-2016 due to track defects and 34 the next year. It (accidents due to track defects) has come down to 17 in 2018-2019, he said. "Safety is accorded the highest priority by Indian Railways and all possible steps are undertaken on a continual basis to ensure safe running trains. "Indian Railways has taken several key measures as a result of which the consequential train accidents have decreased from 135 in 2014-2015 to 59 in 2018-2019," said Goyal.

2 cars, 8 bikes destroyed in fire

Two cars and eight motorcycles were destroyed after a transformer caught fire here Friday, officials said. The incident took place at Block H in Sector 63 around 1.30 pm, Fire Department officials said. The fire was controlled by 1.50 pm, they said. "Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, services of only one fire tender were required and the blaze was doused in about 15 minutes," Phase 3 Fire Officer Naresh Kumar Singh told PTI. "Two cars, a hatchback and a compact SUV, eight motorcycles and two bicycles parked near the transformer were destroyed in the fire," he said. No loss of life or injury case was reported in the incident, which was caused due to oil leakage in the transformer, he said. On May 28, a garment factory was gutted in a fire in Sector 63.

Secure area around dilapidated Esplanade Mansion: Bombay HC to MHADA

Noting that pedestrian safety was of paramount importance, the Bombay High Court Friday directed the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) to take necessary steps to secure the area around the dilapidated Esplanade Mansion. All the occupants of the 150-year-old heritage structure in south Mumbai were evicted after the building was declared as dangerous. On the directions of the high court, the MHADA has put up barricades around the building, prohibiting pedestrians from using the footpath around the structure. A division bench of justices S C Dharmadhikari and Gautam Patel, however, noted that the upper portions and balconies of the building are yet to be covered and there are chances that some part of the upper portions may collapse. Children among 30 killed in Indonesia matchstick factory fire

At least 30 people, including several children, were killed when a fire ripped through a private home that operated as a matchstick factory in Indonesia on Friday, authorities said. Pictures from the scene showed blackened corpses lying on top of each other in the burnt-out house after the blaze, which authorities said broke out early Friday afternoon. TV footage showed plumes of black smoke billowing from the home in the town of Binjai in North Sumatra, about 70 kilometres (44 miles) west of provincial capital Medan. Cleaners find abandoned foetus blocking plane's toilet in S.Africa

Cleaners found an abandoned foetus blocking the toilet of an plane in South Africa on Friday, the domestic FlySafair airline said, prompting the offloading of passengers and a police investigation. The foetus was discovered by cleaning staff as the plane was being prepared and passengers boarded for an early morning flight from the coastal city of Durban to Johannesburg. "Upon final preparations of the waste management system for the departure of flight, our technical crew discovered what appeared to be an abandoned foetus," the airline said in a statement. Police confirmed the incident and said they were investigating. Passengers were asked to disembark the plane and their journeys were re-scheduled. 36 people died due to heat-related illness this year: Govt

A total 36 people have died due to heat-related ailments in the country this year till June 9, Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey told the Lok Sabha on Friday. Citing data by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Choubey said 25 people died in 2018, 384 in 2017 and 1,111 in 2016 due to heat-related ailments. Responding to a question on whether the government has set up infrastructure in government hospitals to deal with patients suffering from heat wave-related problems, Choubey said the primary responsibility of heat wave management rests with the states and the state governments concerned are required to undertake necessary measures as per their relief codes/relief manuals. He said they are required to set up infrastructure in government hospitals to deal with patients suffering from heat wave-related ailments. Man killed in lightning strike in J-K's Rajouri

A 26-year-old man was killed and another person injured when lightning struck their hut in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday. Five goats also perished in the incident which took place in remote Bari Darhal area late Thursday night during a thunderstorm, a police official said. The deceased was identified as Abdul Razak Choudhary, he said. The injured was shifted to hospital and his condition is stated to be "stable", the official said.

Earthquake shakes much of western France, no damage reported

A moderate earthquake has hit western France, felt as far as Bordeaux in the south and Normandy in the north. No damage has been reported so far, according to Col. Michael Bernier, spokesman for the national civil security service. He said it prompted concern in several regions because "so many people felt it." The national seismic service says the epicenter of the 5.1 magnitude quake Friday morning was near the town of Bressuire. It shook a swath of France including the cities of Le Mans, Nantes, Rennes and Caen. KLM halts flights over Strait of Hormuz after drone downing

Dutch airline KLM said Friday it has suspended its flights over the Strait of Hormuz after Iran shot down a US drone in the strategic region. "Safety is the top priority for KLM," it said in a statement.
