The death toll in the house collapse incident in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir has risen to two with one of the six injured persons, an infant, succumbing to injuries, police said on Friday. The newly built concrete double-storey house of one Mohammad Zakir suddenly collapsed at Devlian village in Kalakote area of the border district on Thursday, killing one of the family members, identified as Gafoor Hussain (35), the police said. Six other family members -- Zakir's five children aged between 12 and 17 years and Hussain's one-year-old son Adil Hussain -- were rescued in a serious condition and shifted to hospital where the infant succumbed to injuries late Thursday, a police official said. After initial treatment locally, the rest of the injured were shifted to Government Medical College hospital Jammu for specialised treatment, the official said. He said the district administration has ordered an inquiry to find out the cause of the sudden collapse of the house.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur Friday left for Kullu to enquire about condition of the passengers injured in a bus accident in Banjar tehsil in that district, an official spokesperson said. The chief minister already expressed grief over the tragic accident in which 44 people were killed and 34 others injured Thursday when an overloaded bus fell into a deep drain in Kullu district. Thakur is scheduled to reach at 12.25 pm at Civil Hospital Kullu where most of the injured are being treated. Some of the severely injured passengers have been shifted to PGI Chandigarh, the spokesperson said. A large number of people turned up in Samana here on Friday to bid a tearful adieu to Flight Lieutenant Mohit Garg, who was among 13 IAF personnel aboard the AN-32 aircraft which crashed in Arunachal Pradesh recently. As many as 15 residents of a high -rise suffered from suffocation and were hospitalised after a fire broke out in their building here in the wee hours of Friday, a fire brigade official said. The blaze erupted on the first floor of the 21-storey building at Ram Nagar in suburban Wadala (E), he said. "The incident was reported to our control room at 3.33 am on Friday. A fire fighting team was rushed to the spot and the flames were extinguished within 25 minutes," the official added. "However, 15 people, including nine women, suffered from suffocation as they had inhaled smoke. All have been admitted in KEM Hospital," he said. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday paid homage to the 13 IAF personnel who were killed in An-32 crash in Arunachal Pradesh.The remains of 13 Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were retrieved on Thursday from Arunachal Pradesh where the plane crashed earlier this month and sent to Jorhat IAF station.The AN-32 aircraft went missing on June 3 after taking off from Assam's Jorhat. The aircraft was headed for Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Arunachal Pradesh when it lost contact with ground authorities at around 1 pm.After a massive search and rescue operation for eight days, during which assets from several agencies were deployed, the wreckage of the aircraft was located by a Mi-17 chopper.The wreckage was located 16 km north of Lipo in Arunachal Pradesh at an elevation of 12,000 feet.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday issued elaborate instructions to deal with the intense heat wave conditions in the state which has claimed more than 100 lives so far. According to the control room set up by the state's disaster management department, 101 people have died due to heat stroke and the casualties have been spread across three districts of Aurangabad, Gaya and Nawada. At 58, Aurangabad has reported the highest number of casualties, followed by Gaya (39) and Nawada (14), the control room said. After recording a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees, Gaya received light rainfall bringing respite to the people. The weather department has forecast "overcast sky and thunder showers" for Friday. The private bus (bearing registration number HP 66-7065) fell into the over 300-metre-deep nullah near the Dhoth Morh in Banjar tehsil of the district, Kullu Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri said, adding the vehicle was en route Gada Gushaini. Bodies of three children were recovered during search operations after seven of them went missing when a pick-up van plunged into a canal near here Thursday, officials said. The vehicle was carrying 29 people, who were returning home after attending a wedding function in neighbouring Barabanki district. Twenty-two of them were rescued.
