An old three-storey building in Sadar Bazar collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday.Four fire trucks were at the spot ready to restrict the damage and curb the fire in case it spreads. The building collapsed at 6:30 am today with a few spectators waiting for it to crash down.When the building collapsed it left nothing but a cloud of dust and rubble.The building was inhabited by residents but was vacated upon realizing the deteriorating condition of the house and the risk of the roof caving in on them.The condition of the three-storey residence was worsening each day given its extremely aged frame. The collapse did not result in any casualty given its pre-vacated status.

The body of an unidentified man floating in the sea off the Juhu coast was Tuesday brought ashore by lifeguards deployed there, a Disaster Management Unit official said. The body was found afloat near Godrej Bungalow at around 9:15 by lifeguards, he said, adding that efforts to identify him, who looked in his mid-twenties, were underway.

Six women including two teenagers were killed in Bhandara district of Maharashtra Tuesday when the jeep they were travelling in fell off a bridge, police said. The accident took place around 3.30 pm on a bridge on the Chulbandh river on Sakoli-Lakhandur road near Mouza Kumbhli village, a police official said. The passenger-carrying jeep fell into the river after the driver lost control, he said. There were 13 passengers in the jeep, of which six, including two teenagers, lost their lives, he said. Three women were seriously injured and admitted to a hospital in Bhandara, while four others, including the driver, were sent to a government hospital in Sakoli. Police have registered a case.
The operation to retrieve the bodies of the 13 air warriors on board the ill-fated AN-32 aircraft that crashed in Arunachal Pradesh remained suspended Tuesday, even as a ground team comprising Garud commandos, civilian porters and hunters was on its way to the site on foot, IAF officials said. Fifteen people are missing after a crowded jeep they were travelling in skidded off a mountainous road and plunged into a river in Nepal's Humla district on Tuesday. The jeep veered off the road and plunged into the Karnali river in Kharpunath rural municipality at around 1 pm (local time), the Himalayan Times reported. The jeep - which had the capacity to carry only nine persons - was crowded as it was carrying 15 people, it said. "We are yet to ascertain whether the missing persons have already breathed their last or (are) still alive," said an administration official, adding that rescue operations have been intensified. A team of Nepal Police, Nepal Army, and Armed Police Force have been deployed to carry out the search and rescue operations, the report said. The Maharashtra government Tuesday expressed solidarity with farmers reeling under the impact of severe drought in large parts of the state and said a sum of Rs 4,461 crore has been credited in bank accounts of more than 66 lakh cultivators as part of relief measures. Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, while tabling the additional budget for 2019-20 in the assembly, saidthe sum of Rs 4,461 crore has been credited as a grant in bank accounts of 66,88,422 farmersin 17,985 villages spread over 26 drought -affected districts. He outlined drought mitigation steps undertaken by the government. The minister said a control room has been set up in each of the collectorate to tackle the issue of drinking water scarcity. Piped water supply schemesin the drought-affected areas, which were closed due to electricity arrears, have been restarted by paying 5 per cent of the pending dues .
The Fall Army Worm (FAW) outbreak that left a trail of destruction across the maize fields in Mizoram, is decreasing, the Joint Director of Agriculture Department, James Lalsiamliana, said on Wednesday. Lalsiamliana informed PTI that there is a chance of recovery of the infested crop, depending upon the severity of damage, control measures taken and application of fertilizers. "We are yet to be able to predict the extent of damage or possible recovery as the value of damage may differ, and actual value of damage or crop loss could be calculated after harvest of the cobs," he said. As of today 10,049 maize farming families residing in 341 villages across eight districts in the state have been affected by the pest attack. The pest attack started in the first week of April. Out of a total of 4,729 hectare of land where maize was cultivated, a total of 3,016 hectare of land has been recorded as infested by the state agriculture department officials.
