A massive search operation involving a large fleet of planes, choppers and ground force was underway on Tuesday and satellite imagery being used to trace an AN-32 transport plane of the Indian Air Force, a day after it went missing near the thickly-forested Menchuka in Arunachal Pradesh. Aircraft equipped with advanced sensors including C-130J, AN-32 and Indian Navy's long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft P8I were deployed besides Mi-17 and ALH helicopters of the Army to locate the missing plane, officials said. A high-powered team of the NITI Aayog, headed by Deputy Chairman Rajiv Kumar, inspected the underground mines of Bharat Coking Coal Limited here on Tuesday and sought early rehabilitation of residents living in the fire and subsidence zone of the coal belt. Kumar told reporters here that the team wanted to ascertain the reasons behind the slow pace of rehabilitation in Jharia, besides looking into the possibilities of increasing coal production. Five people were killed after a vehicle rammed into two motorcycles in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district on Tuesday, police said. The speeding SUV hit the two bikes near Manaksar overbridge in Suratgarh town, an officer said. A person named Bajrang was charred to death after his bike caught fire after the collision, Suratgarh Deputy Superintendent of Police Vidhya Prakash said. Four others killed in the incident have been identified as Laksham Ram (50), Jagdish (56), Hazari (30) and Nakshatra Singh (28), the officer said. A search is on for the driver who fled the spot. The Northeast Frontier Railway has taken up a daunting task of electrifying more than 50 per cent of the total 6,242 km of railway lines by March 2020, officials said on Tuesday. A total of 534 km of railway lines has already been electrified and an additional 2,631 km of railway lines will be electrified by March 2020, the spokesperson of NF Railway, P J Sharma, said. A total of 219 kmof railway tracks under the jurisdiction of Katihar Division of NF Railway was electrified in 2017-18, including Katihar Yard (37.51 km) and Katihar- Kumedpur-Malda Court (181.84 km) sections, and since then a total of 315 km of railway lines were electrified during 2018 -19. DR Congo's health ministry said late Monday that it had recorded more than 2,000 cases of Ebola, two-thirds of which had been fatal, since the disease broke out in the country's east 10 months ago. "Since the start of the epidemic, the total number of cases stands at 2,008, of which 1,914 have been confirmed (by lab test) while 94 are probable," it said in an update. "In all, there have been 1,346 deaths (1,252 confirmed and 94 probable) and 539 people have recovered." Drug firm Lupin Tuesday said Japanese regulatory agency, PMDA, has concluded the inspection of Unit 2 at Mandideep facility in Madhya Pradesh with no major observations. The inspection was conducted between May 14 and May 17, 2019, Lupin said in a statement. The good manufacturing practices (GMP) inspection by the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA), Japan of the company's Mandideep facility (Unit-2) has been completed, it said. "The PMDA inspection closed with no critical or major observations," Lupin said. PMDA is Japanese regulatory agency that protects public health by assuring safety, efficacy and quality of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Boeing said Tuesday that it has signed a technical assistance agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to jointly develop a comprehensive 10-year roadmap for modernising air traffic management in India. The roadmap is expected to be developed within 18 months and it will be undertaken with a grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), Boeing said in a statement. The AAI owns and manages around 125 airports across the country. New emissions rules set to hit the shipping sector from next year risk causing costly harm to vessels, German insurance giant Allianz said in a study published Tuesday. The US aircraft maker Boeing co and national airports body AAI Tuesday announced the signing of a technical assistance agreement for developing a comprehensive roadmap for modernisation of air traffic services in the country. A fishing boat with eight persons on board capsized off the Mumbai coast, a police officer said Tuesday, adding that all of them have been rescued. The incident occurred on the intervening night of June 2 and June 3, when the boat, "Ajanta", was returning to Uttan in Thane district. "The boat capsized around 30 nautical miles away from Mumbai. All the eight men, including the owner of the boat, fell into the sea due to the impact. They were rescued by two other boats nearby. All of them are safe," said the senior officer with Uttan Sagri police station. The boat sank completely this morning, he said, adding that two boats have been dispatched for relief.
