A 30-year-old man from Ivory Coast was Monday arrested here for allegedly peddling narcotics and seized 15 gm of cocaine from him, Prohibition and Excise officials said. Based on specific information, Vtindn Guessan Yves was arrested, a press release said. Further, it was revealed that a Nigerian gang led by Yves alias Hamza, who earlier worked as the president of a Nigerian Association in Bengaluru, was allegedly running a drugs racket, the release said.

A 25-year-old housewife from Nallasopara in Palghar district was allegedly raped by two men over the last 45 days, the police said Monday. The accused, identified as Vibas Kar and his friend Sajid live in neighbourhood of the woman in the township, around 41 kms from here. According to police, Kar allegedly entered the house of the woman on June 17 when her husband and children were away and raped her. He threatened to kill her husband and children if she resisted him, a police official said. Later, Kar again sexually assaulted the woman and also roped in Sajid. The duo raped her on several occasions between June 17 and August 30, the official said. The woman finally confided in her husband who lodged an FIR with the Valiv Police last evening. Kar and Sajid have been booked under various sections of the IPC, including punishment for rape, the police official said. Police are yet to make any arrests in the case.
An aide of a chit fund operator, earlier accused in a scam, has been arrested on charges of misbehaving with a woman and beating up her son, police said Monday. The personnel of Kharavela Nagar Police Station arrested Subhankar Nayak from his flat near Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Monday, they said. On Sunday, the woman had lodged a complaint against Nayak. In her complaint, she said that Nayak has been harassing her for a long time. On Sunday, Nayak visited the her house and misbehaved with her. Besides, he also beat up her son. The complainant had said that she was staying with her son as her husband was away. Police had registered a case against Nayak who had dismissed the allegations. Nayak, suspected to be the key aide of Seshore Group chaairman Prashant Dash, was arrested by the CBI in 2014 for his alleged links in the chit fund scam. He was, however, released from jail after Orissa High Court granted him conditional bail on August 1, 2017.
The Bombay High Court on Monday came down heavily on Maharashtra Police for holding a press conference and elaborating on the evidence against activists arrested in the Bhima Koregaon case.The court questioned the police for holding a media interaction when the case is sub-judice.During the course of the hearing, the court criticised the cops for disclosing details of the matter, even after the police themselves had sought strict confidentiality in the proceedings.The high court was hearing a petition filed by the alleged victim of the Bhima Koregaon violence, Satish Gaikwad, who wants the case to be handed over to the National Investigative Agency. Sixty-four persons were arrested for allegedly gambling at a resort in Maharashtra's Palghar district and cash, mobiles phones and vehicles with a cumulative worth of Rs 1.63 crore were seized from them, police said Monday. Palghar police, acting on a tip-off, raided a resort situated along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in the Maljipada area of the district in the early hours Sunday and made the arrests and seizure, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said. He said that the 64 persons arrested in the raid were playing a card game called 'teen patti' and hailed from Gujarat, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Two persons who were operating the gambling network, identified as Rirish Shetty and Sanmit Shetty, and resort owner Harish Thakur were among those arrested, the SP said. A woman was allegedly killed by her husband in Sanjay Nagar locality of Baradari area here, police said Monday. Shalini Lodhi (20) was killed on Sunday by her husband Rahul against whom she had lodged a dowry harassment complaint about three months ago, they said. The accused was pressuring Shalini to withdraw the case and as she did not listen to him, Shalini was killed, the deceased's family members alleged. The accused is also alleged to have attacked Shalini's younger sister, who is receiving treatment at a hospital. Police is probing the matter and are trying to arrest the accused.
China's foreign ministry says it is looking into the circumstances surrounding the arrest of e-commerce billionaire Liu Qiangdong, also known as Richard Liu, in the US on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct. Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a news conference on Monday that the Chinese Consulate in Chicago was "closely following the relevant situation" and trying to verify facts regarding the situation. The Bombay High Court raised questions Monday over Maharashtra police's media briefing on its case against some prominent activists arrested for their alleged links with Maoists. State Additional Director General (Law and Order) Parambir Singh along with the Pune police had addressed the media on the case on Friday. During the press conference, Singh had read out letters purportedly exchanged between the activists. He claimed that the police had "conclusive proof" to link Left-wing activists arrested in June and last week to Maoists. A division bench of Justices S S Shinde and Mridula Bhatkar questioned how the police could read out such documents which may be used as evidence in the case. "How can the police do this? The matter is sub judice. The Supreme Court is seized of the matter. In such cases, revealing information pertaining to the case is wrong," Justice Bhatkar said. A 35-year-old man's hand was allegedly chopped off by members of a family when he went to their residence to enquire about his missing cow here, police said Monday. The victim, Kallu Sahu, went Saturday evening to the home of Sattu Yadav in Pipalwali village, situated about 40 km from the district headquarters, in search of his missing cow, Sultanpur police station's Assistant Sub-Inspector Malkhan Singh Meena said. However, a simple enquiry about the animal turned into a heated argument when Yadav did not give a satisfactory reply on the matter following which Sahu allegedly abused him, he said. The enraged family members of Yadav then caught Sahu and tied him to a tree. They allegedly thrashed Sahu mercilessly, attacked him with a sword and chopped off one of his hands and caused severe injuries to the other, Meena said. A self-styled godman allegedly molested a 15-year-old girl in a temple in south Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, police said Monday. The incident took place on August 17 when the complainant along with her niece and son visited the temple. Since, the complainant's son was ill, she took him to the self-styled godman, Nabbe Bhagat (42), to get his illness cured, a police officer said. The relative alleged that her niece was molested by the godman who also threatened to kill her, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Vijay Kumar said. Based on a complaint filed by the girl's relative, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act on August 30, they said. Subsequently, Bhagat was arrested from his temple on Sunday, police said adding that further investigation is underway.
A man has been booked for allegedly raping his 15-year-old cousin when she went to his house to celebrate Rakshabandhan in the Tindwari area here, police said Monday. The girl on August 26, went to his 21-year-old cousin Mohit's house for tying Rakhi and he held her captive for two days and raped her, they said. Police in Bangladesh have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the murder case of his former daughter-in-law who worked as a TV journalist, according to a media report. Subarna Akter Nodi, 32, was hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon by some unidentified assailants at her home last week. She worked as a correspondent of private news channel Ananda TV and also for the Daily Jagroto Bangla newspaper. Industrialist Abul Hossain, father of Nodi's former husband Rajib Hossain, has been sent to judicial custody by a court in Pabna district, Dhaka Tribune reported. The victim's mother had filed a murder case accusing Nodi's husband Rajib and his father Abul, and four to five people. The case was handed over to the Detective Branch of police. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked the Assam DGP to update it about the status of a probe into the alleged abduction and gang rape of a woman in Nagaon district, an official said Monday. The woman, in her twenties, was allegedly abducted, gang-raped, and dumped on a national highway in Nagaon district. In a complaint filed with police last week, the woman had said she was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her male friend. She had alleged they were waylaid and forcibly taken away by four men in their vehicle. The four abductors raped her at Amoni near the Kalong river and abandoned her near a petrol pump on NH 37 after she passed out, police said. An oil-tanker driver spotted her and informed police, who rushed to the spot and admitted her to the Nagaon civil hospital. Two members of an arms-smuggling racket have been arrested at Manipur's Churachandpur district during a search operation, a police officer said. The two accused, who were arrested Saturday, confessed to have brought arms from Behiang village at the India-Myanmar border to Churachandpur town via Singngat, the sub-divisional headquarters of the district, he said. Based on their statements, police raided a storage vault at Sumchinvum village in Churachandpur and seized two rifles and several magazines, the officer said, adding that more details in the case would be available after further investigation.
