Man gets 2-year RI for molesting minor girl in Maharashtra

A Maharashtra court has sentenced a 27-year-old man to two-year rigorous imprisonment for molesting a teenaged girl. Special judge (POCSO court) S A Sinha in her order on Friday also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the accused Vilas Kakade. According to the prosecution, Kakade used to stalk the 15-year-old girl on way to her school in Manpada area of Thane city following which she informed her parents, who warned the accused. On November 2, 2017, the accused molested the Class 10 girl when she was returning home from her school. He also slit his wrist with a knife and told her she would be blamed if he committed suicide. On January 30, 2018, the accused again approached the girl when she was returning home from school and threatened her. The girl's parents then filed a police complaint following which the accused was arrested and booked under Indian Penal Code Section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with an intent to outrage her modesty) and the Protection of Children from ...

British suspect absent for Paris trial over 1996 murder in Ireland

Twenty-two years after the savage murder of the wife of a celebrated French film producer in Ireland, a trial gets under way in Paris on Monday, but with the British suspect absent and unrepresented. Ian Bailey, a 62-year-old former freelance journalist, denies killing Sophie Toscan du Plantier on December 23 1996, and "will not be present, or represented" in court on Monday, his lawyers Dominique Tricaud and Franck Buttimer told reporters. The Irish government has refused to extradite Bailey, who will therefore be judged in absentia. The parents, son and other people close to the victim, will however be present for the trial. Toscan du Plantier, who was the 39-year-old wife of film producer Daniel Toscan du Plantier, was found beaten to death at her holiday home in County Cork in southwest Ireland. Injuries to her hands showed that she had struggled to defend herself. Near her body was found a large rock and bloodstained concrete block. Bailey has long lived in Ireland near the home .

Rajasthan: Woman abducted, gang-raped by 6 men

A married woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by six people at various locations in Rajasthan, police said.A case was registered one month ago regarding the abduction of the victim."Her tea was spiked and then she was taken away on a motorcycle and was allegedly gang-raped, at multiple locations. We have registered a case against six people. Out of them, we have arrested three people on Sunday," said Dinesh Jiwanani, Landanu Police station in-charge.The police are searching for the remaining three culprits.

Japanese man dies inflight after eating 246 cocaine packets

Mexican prosecutors say a Japanese man who died aboard an airliner shortly after takeoff from Mexico City had ingested 246 packets of cocaine and went into cardiac arrest from a drug overdose. Sunday's statement was issued by the attorney general's office for the northern state of Sonora, where an autopsy was performed following an emergency stop by the Aeromexico flight in Hermosillo. The prosecutor's office says other passengers reported seeing the man convulsing in the early hours of Friday as the jetliner headed for Narita, Japan. Authorities identified the man only as Udo "N'' and said he had travelled to Mexico's capital from Bogota, Colombia.

Man kills wife following fight over dancing with another woman

A 60-year-old man axed his wife to death following a heated argument with her over his dancing with another woman in a marriage party, police said Sunday. Accused Kashuram had gone to attend a marriage ceremony in his neighbour's family in Panwara police station area in Udaipur on Friday with his wife Bhikali, 50. During the function, he danced with another woman, upsetting his wife, police said. As the couple returned home, a heated argument broke out between the two following which the man attacked his wife with an axe in a fit of rage and ended up killing her, the police said. The murder was reported by the slain woman's step son on Saturday, following which the police recovered the body and sent it for post martem. It registered a case of murder at Panwara police station. The police handed the body to relatives after post martem and arrested Kashuram Sunday, police said.

Mumbai: 3 held for running fake employment racket

Crime Branch unit of Mumbai Police on Sunday arrested three people, namely Rajesh Kumar Tanti, Manish Sing, and Seema Sunil Kumar for allegedly running a fake employment racket.All three of them are accused in several other cases.While two of them have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh, one woman was arrested from Andheri area in Mumbai. A hunt is on to find other members of the gang.According to police, the three accused used to deceive people on the pretext of providing jobs with the Indian Railways. They not only made fake promises of providing jobs but also used to make fake papers of joining, training, posting letters, and salary slips."It was a nation-wide racket. They have cheated several people in different states of the country," police said.

Decomposed body of missing 11-yr-old boy found, one held

The decomposed body of an 11-year-old boy, who had been missing since May 14, was found under Khajuri flyover in northeast Delhi Sunday evening, police said. The boy was allegedly killed by his neighbour as he felt insulted when the victim's parents admonished him for staying outside their house, police said. Confirming the incident, Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast), said the accused, identified as Danish, has been arrested from his house in the Nehru Vihar area. He used to deal in sale of live chicken and his house is adjacent to victim's house, the officer said. During investigation, Danish was seen walking down a lane with the boy in a CCTV footage. The date and time of the CCTV footage was matched with the missing compliant of the child, Thakur said. History-sheeter shot dead by bike-borne men

A history-sheeter was shot dead reportedly by three bike-borne men in northeast Delhi's Welcome area Sunday, police said. Imran (28), who used to work as a driver, was earlier involved in cases of attempt to murder and rape, they said. The incident took place around 3 pm in Lakdi market when three-bike borne men opened multiple rounds of fire on the victim and fled from the spot, Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), said. Imran was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, he said. A case has been registered in the incident, the officer said. The victim lived with his wife at Shashtri Park, police said. Thakur said the police were scanning CCTV footage to ascertain the exact sequence of events and identify the accused. Shopkeeper succumbs to injuries after being beaten up in Mathura

A shopkeeper, who was allegedly attacked around a week ago by a group of people here for demanding money for a beverage item they consumed, succumbed to injuries Sunday, police said. According to SSP Satyarth Aniruddha Pankaj, Bharat, the owner of a lassi shop at Chauk Bazar here, was admitted to a hospital on May 18 after being beaten up by over 10 people when he demanded money for the traditional yogurt-based drink they consumed. He was discharged from the hospital the next day but when his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to a hospital in Agra on May 24. He, however, succumbed to injuries on Sunday, police said. As the news of his death spread, local traders and Bharat's neighbours staged a demonstration by placing the body on the road at Chauk Bazar and demanded that the suspects be nabbed soon. The demonstration ended after the SSP assured them of action against the suspects. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area in order to prevent any untoward incident, the SSP .

BJP supporter killed in Tripura

A supporter of the ruling BJP was killed in Tripura's West Tripura district, police said on Sunday. The BJP alleged that the CPI(M) had a hand in the death of its supporter, but the communist party denied the allegation. "A BJP karyakarta was murdered at Banikya Chowmuhani area on Saturday night. We have report that there is involvement of CPI(M). There is also silent Congress support from behind," BJP state spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya told reporters. Delhi: 1 arrested in connection with murder of 11-year-old boy

Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a person in Khajuri Khas area of the national capital for allegedly murdering an 11-year-old boy who was missing since May 14.Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North-East Delhi said, "The dead body of the boy was recovered from under a flyover yesterday evening.""The accused whose name is Danish was angry with the deceased's family over some issues. To teach them a lesson, he took the boy and killed him by strangulating him," the DCP added.The DCP further said, "While analysing CCTV footages, police got the lead and interrogated the accused, who later confessed to his crime. AMMK leader hacked to death

The union secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, Saravanan, has been hacked to death by unidentified persons here, police said Sunday. Four special teams have been constituted to nab the culprits, they said. Saravanan was killed when he was taking his morning walk, police said, adding the motive behind the killing was being investigated. Police said AMMK leaders and activists, including district secretary Umadevan, refused to accept Saravanan's body in protest. They demanded the culprits be arrested. Superintendent of Police Jayachandran assured the AMMK men swift would be taken action in the matter. Former city Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar was on Sunday told to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Monday in connection with an ongoing investigation into multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.The central investigative agency has issued a notice to Kumar in this regard.
