Haryana: 4 arrested in anti-narcotic drive, 250 gram heroin seized

Haryana Police, in separate cases, have arrested four persons in an anti-narcotic drive from Sirsa district, police said on Tuesday.A total of 250 grams of heroin was seized from the possession of accused.The market value of a seized drug is around Rs 25 lakh.A spokesperson of the Police department today said that as a part of a special campaign, Jaspal and Charanpal, both residents of village Dadu were nabbed from Rori area after 227 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession.In another case, CIA sleuths arrested Sonu, a resident of Ther Mohalla on the charges of possessing 20-gram heroin.In a separate case, Kalanwali Thana Police seized three-gram heroin from accused, Sandeep, a native of Mandi Kalanwali.He said that cases under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act have been registered against them in different Police Stations. 15 members of Kapil Sangwan gang arrested with firearms

Fifteen members of Kapil Sangwan gang were arrested with firearms in outer Delhi's Goyala Dairy area, police said Tuesday. Based on a tip-off, police on Monday conducted a raid at a house in Najafgarh where the accused had gathered for a party to celebrate the release of their gang leader Kapil Sangwan from jail, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) A K Singla said. "After we got the tip-off, four police teams were formed which raided the premises at Goyala Dairy. Total 15 people with firearms were apprehended," he said. Around 50-60 people were present in the house when the raid was conducted, Singla said. In the operation, one assistant sub-inspector sustained a stab injury on his left hand, police said. Woman from Chandrapur, abandoned by husband in Africa, returns

Chandrapur police in Maharashtra helped a local woman, who was stranded in Malawi in southeast Africa after her husband allegedly abandoned her, return home, officials said Tuesday. The woman (name not disclosed), who hailed from Padoli in the district, was married to a Hyderabad-based man two years ago, according a police press release. After marriage, the couple shifted to Malawi's capital Lilongwe where her husband was in seeds business, it said. Last month the woman's husband returned to India, leaving her behind in the African country and also taking away her passport, the police said. Iranian woman held for looting shopkeeper in UP's Rasoolabad

An Iranian woman was arrested for allegedly looting a shopkeeper of Rs 50,000 in cash, police said Tuesday. The woman, along with her accomplices, had fled with a bundle of notes after offering to exchange notes of lower denomination with that of higher denomination, they said. The incident took place in Kanpur Dehat. ASP Anoop Kumar said a case had been registered against the accused, identified as Samira Bodaghizadeh (28), a resident of Tehran. "Samira, along with her other persons, suspected to be Iranians, walked into Maharaj Singh's shop on Bela Road at Nehru Nagar in Rasoolabad. In an unexpected turn, the Indian-American father, accused of killing his 3-year-old adopted daughter Sherin Mathews and dumping her body in a culvert in suburban Dallas, has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, media reports said Tuesday. Wesley Mathews, 39, pleaded guilty to injury to a child by omission even before his capital murder trial opened at a Dallas district court on Monday. Mathews had been charged with capital murder of a person under the age of 10 in the death of his special needs daughter in October 2017. Man arrested for trying to rob elderly woman in outer Delhi

A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly trying to rob an elderly woman in outer Delhi's Nangloi, police said on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Bal Kishan, a resident of Rohtak, while his accomplice, Narender, was absconding, they added. According to the police, the incident took place on Monday, when the 71-year-old woman was going to a nearby market. As she reached near the Nangloi metro station, two bike-borne men arrived and attempted to initiate a conversation with her. Getting a whiff of their intention, the woman raised an alarm. A police officer, who was patrolling the area, arrived at the spot and caught hold of Bal Kishan, while Narender managed to flee. Four women from West Bengal and a tout have been arrested after a sex racket was busted in Kota town of Rajasthan, police said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, a police team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kota city) Amrita Duhan, laid a trap and then raided a hotel near Gabriya Bawadi in Anantpura area on Monday night, an officer said. Gadchiroli blast: Three more held

Police have arrested three more persons in connection with the May 1 naxal attack in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district in which 16 people, including 15 policemen, were killed. With the arrest of Somnath Madavi (38), Kisan Hidami (42) and Sakru Gota (35) on Sunday, the total number of persons in custody has risen to seven, Gadchiroli Police said in a release issued Tuesday. A total of 15 security personnel and one civilian were killed in an IED blast triggered by naxals in Jambhulkheda in the east Maharashtra district. Police had earlier arrested western sub-zonal chief of Maoists, Nirmala Kumari alias Narmadakka, and her husband Satyanarayan alias Kiran. On June 13, Dlip Hidami (22) and Parasram Tulawi (28) were arrested from Kurkheda taluka of the district. Remand prisoner dies, four cops suspended, eight transferred

: A 49-year-old remand prisoner of Peermedu sub-jail here has died, allegedly following custodial torture, following which four police personnel have been suspended and eight others transferred. Rajkumar, (49), who was taken into custody on June 12 in connection with a financial fraud case, died on June 21, police said. As per the initial postmortem report, he had suffered serious injuries and had at least 32 wounds on both legs below the knee. Four police personnel-- including a Sub Inspector, Assistant Sub Inspector and two drivers of Nedumkandam police station have been suspended and eight others transferred in connection with Kumar's death, police sources said. CCI fines Jalgaon-based medicine dealers' body, 2 others for anti-competitive trade practices

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a total fine of over Rs 4 lakh on the Jalgaon District Medicine Dealers Association, its president and a former vice-president for indulging in anti-competitive trade practices. The Jalgaon-based grouping was levied a penalty of Rs 80,185, while its President Sunil R Bhangale and former vice-president Anil R Zawar were fined Rs 2.14 lakh and Rs 1.27 lakh, respectively. The ruling came on a complaint filed by Nadie Jauhri who alleged that the association was collecting product information service (PIS) charges from the manufacturers of pharmaceutical products in violation of the provisions of the Competition Act. An additional director of motorcycle taxi firm, Bike Bot, accused of duping 2.25 lakh investors of nearly Rs 1,400 crore, has been arrested, police said Tuesday. Accused Vinod Kumar Chauhan, who was evading arrest in the case, was held near Gaur Chowk in Greater Noida on Monday, they said. Garvit Innovative Promoters Limited (GIPL), a Greater Noida-based company, lured investors with a multi-level marketing scheme, "Bike Bot", promising to double returns in one year, the police said. It sought Rs 62,100 in investment for a motorcycle taxi and assured monthly returns, besides doubling the investment amount in just one year. However, it failed to deliver on the promise, they said. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Tuesday issued a notice to police seeking details of all the rape accused out on bail. The notice came following an incident in outer Delhi's Narela area where a 28-year-old man, who had previously been convicted of raping a minor in 2011, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a seven-year-old girl after raping her. Man stabbed 18 times in front of 14-yr-old son over train aisle row in UK

A man was stabbed 18 times in front of his 14-year-old son after a "heated argument" over blocking the aisle on a London-bound train in January, a UK court was told. Lee Pomeroy, 51, was attacked by Darren Pencille, 36, five minutes after boarding the train at Guildford, Surrey, on January 4, the Old Bailey was told. Revenue official held for taking bribe in Sawai Madhopur

A village revenue officer was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly taking a bribe in Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur district, an official said. The accused, Lal Samariya (33), allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3,200 from the complainant, Virendra Singh, in a land-mutation case, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Anti Corruption Bureau) Bhairu Lal. The DSP said the complaint against Samariya was verified last Thursday when the accused accepted a bribe of Rs 1,000 from Singh. On Tuesday, a trap was laid by the ACB officials and Samariya was caught red-handed, Lal said.
