Man arrested after he shot at woman over money dispute

A man, who allegedly shot at a 25-year-old woman in southwest Delhi after she asked him to return the money he borrowed, has been arrested, police said on Sunday. The accused, Rahul Singhal, was arrested near Aggarwal Dharamshala in Chattarpur Enclave after a tip-off. His associates who provided him vehicles, money and place to hide have also been arrested, the police said. Singhal shot at the woman, Sonali Singh, inside his car at Vasant Kunj area on Friday night after a quarrel when she asked him to repay over Rs 2.5 lakh, police said. Singh suffered injuries and where her condition is out of danger, the police said. Multiple raids were conducted at places like Kishangarh, Devli, Ranikhera, Harevli and Rohtak. Subsequently, the accused Rahul was arrested from Chattarpur Enclave, the officer said. 5 arrested for shooting at woman in Delhi

Five men were arrested for their alleged involvement in shooting at a woman over business rivalry in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar area, police said Sunday. The incident took place in April, the police said, adding the woman was injured due to the firing when she was returning home along with her nephew in a car. The accused two who opened fire at the woman were identified as Saurabh Rana (19), Prince Khasa (19) and Danish Bali (19). Two more accused who hatched the conspiracy were identified as Raj Kumar Verma (46) and Ravi Goel (28), the police said. Interrogation of the arrested revealed that business rivalry between Raj Kumar Verma and the woman led to the attack. They owned separate spas in the same locality, a senior police officer said.

TV channel crew fired at in robbery bid in Delhi

In a suspected case of attempt to robbery, two bike-borne men allegedly opened fire at a news channel crew when they were going to an assignment in south Delhi early on Sunday, police said. A TV journalist, Siddharth Purohit, accused the police of not helping them despite reporting the incident to some officials near the INA metro station. The personnel, he alleged, removed the barricades instead and left the spot. Around 1.30 am, Purohit was passing through the Barapullah flyover in his office cab with a camera person and the driver when two bike-borne men intercepted their vehicle, the police said. The driver tried to speed away when the two brandished a pistol. But one of them shot three rounds at the vehicle, but they had a narrow escape, a senior officer said. As the accused were chasing the vehicle, the driver continued driving with a hope of spotting PCR vans for help. TMC MP gets threat letter wanting to see Mamata Banerjee dead

Trinamool Congress MP from Arambagh, Aparupa Poddar on Sunday claimed to have got a letter which allegedly says Rs 1 crore will be given to see Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dead.Poddar has filed a complaint at the Sreerampur Police Station.The letter also has a morphed picture of Banerjee, in which she is labelled as a witch.The letter has been signed in the name of Rajveer Killa and a mobile number has also been mentioned in it.A person by the same name, who is a resident of Bidhannagar, approached the state police and complained that his name has been wrongly used in the letter.

UP minister questions 'nature' of some rape cases

At a time incidents of rape were reported from different parts of Uttar Pradesh, a state minister sought to question the authenticity of some such cases saying there is a "nature of rape". Speaking to reporters in Gonda, Water Supply, Land Development and Water Resources Minister Upendra Tiwari said, "There is a nature of rape. Now if a minor is raped, it will be considered as rape. But at times we hear that a married woman in the age-group of 30-35 years too has been a victim of a similar incident...for 7-8 years there would be an affair, then complaint of rape comes...Such matters should have been raised then." A video clip of the minister's controversial comment has gone viral on social media. Tiwari also said that whenever an incident of rape takes place, "the chief minister himself takes cognizance and strict action is initiated against the guilty." A 12-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by six men in Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday evening.

Mob tries to force woman dancers to strip at cultural event in Assam, 2 held

A mob of over 500 men allegedly tried to force woman dancers of a troupe to strip during a cultural programme in Assam's Kamrup district, following which police arrested two persons involved in the incident, officials said Sunday. The two men, Shahrukh Khan and Subahan Khan, were arrested on Sunday after a case was filed on the basis of a complaint registered by the cultural troupe against the organisers of the programme, which was held at a village under Chaygaon Police Station limits. The dancers of the group were heckled by the spectators who demanded that they strip and dance, according to the FIR. The dancers managed to escape from the programme at Asolpara and their vehicles were also pelted with stones, it added. It was alleged that the organisers had sold tickets to people at very high rates claiming that the troupe was coming from Coochbehar in West Bengal to perform strip dances on Friday. Kanpur: Cleric rapes 16-year-old at madrassa, arrested

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Muslim cleric inside the premises of a madrassa in the city.Sharing details of the incident, RK Chaturvedi, Circle Officer, Govindnagar, said: "Today afternoon we have received the information that a female student of madrassa had accused a Muslim cleric of rape.""The cleric is a teacher at the madrassa. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under Sections 376, 506 of IPC and POSCO Act. The victim has been sent for medical."The incident comes at a time when Uttar Pradesh is reeling under a spate of crime against minor girls including the killing of two and a half years old girl - Twinkle Sharma - in Aligarh over some financial dispute with her father. Body of minor girl found in bushes in UP; FIR registered

Body of a 7-year-old girl was found in the bushes outside Bijbaha village in Uttar Pradesh Sunday, police said. The incident comes close on the heels of the brutal murder of a toddler at Aligarh in the state. Superintendent of Police Swami Prasad said the minor had gone missing on Saturday. "The girl's body was spotted by the locals Sunday morning," he said. A case has been registered against two persons following a complaint by the victim's father, Laakhan Singh, Prasad said. Woman saves Muslim family from mob in Aligarh

Days after the killing of a two-year-old girl fuelled tension in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district, a 24-year-old woman saved a Muslim family from getting attacked by a mob on Sunday, police said. The incident occurred in Jattari area, over 40 km from here, when the family from Balabgarh, Haryana, was travelling in a van to attend an engagement. They were accompanied by a woman named Puja Chauhan, who was a close family friend, the police said. One of the travellers, Shafi Mohammad Abbasi, said the goons on motorcycles attacked the van with iron rods. NIA arrests Sabiruddin from Malda for conspiring to circulate fake currency in Bengaluru

Ruling in Kathua rape case expected on Monday

Rave party busted in Delhi's Chhattarpur, 8 held

The Delhi Excise Department and police busted a rave party being held illegally in Chhattarpur here, arresting eight people including the main coordinators of the event, a government official said Sunday. Police said the organisers used social media platforms including WhatsApp to invite youths into the party. The joint raid was carried out late Saturday night following a tip-off about alleged violation of liquor licence, and among the eight arrested by the police is Pulkit Rastogi, one of the main coordinators of party, police said. Man arrested for killing his neighbour in Central Delhi

A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour-cum-friend after a quarrel between them over a petty issue in Central Delhi's Prasad Nagar, police said Sunday. The accused- Kamal Chauhan, a resident of Karol Bagh, owns a jeans manufacturing unit in Narela Industrial area. He has one previous case against him, they said.
