LPG cylinders to be delivered as scheduled, no queues needed: UP CM

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday assured people that there is no need to stand in queues for cooking gas cylinders, assuring them that LPG will continue to be delivered at homes according to the booking schedule. Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a Software Technology Park in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area, Adityanath urged people not to rush to gas agencies or fuel stations unnecessarily. "Book your LPG cylinder as per requirement and it will be delivered to your doorstep in due course. There is no need to stand in line outside agencies," he said. He also advised people to purchase petrol and diesel only when required, cautioning that queues at filling stations are being driven by rumours. "Some people are trying to create panic and disturb normalcy by spreading misinformation. The public should not pay heed to such rumours," he said. Referring to consumption patterns, the chief minister questioned why households that

Freight surge, LPG shortage amid Iran war hit exports from east India

The West Asia crisis has pushed freight costs for Europe-bound cargo up by 60-80 per cent, with exports falling by as much as 50 per cent for some exporters while hundreds of containers got stranded at Kolkata port, industry representatives said on Thursday. Calcutta Customs House Agents Association (CCHAA) president Mannu Choudhary told PTI that freight charges have risen by over 40 per cent due to rerouting through the African route, while war surcharges imposed by shipping lines have taken the total cost escalation to 70-80 per cent for shipments to Europe and the US. Exporters also complained of a shortage of containers. "Shipping lines are denying freight details to exporters, who are now waiting. No fresh containers are being accepted by shipping lines," he said. Choudhary said around 600 containers that had entered Kolkata port for loading were being returned to the city following last-minute cargo cancellations. Of these, around 400 have already been taken back, while the

Govt says no shortage of petrol, diesel, urges public to avoid panic buying

The government on Wednesday said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in the country, and urged citizens not to believe rumours circulating on social media or resort to panic buying. LPG supplies remain affected due to the ongoing disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. In a media briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said all refineries are operating at high capacity with "adequate crude inventories", while "sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel are being maintained" and retail outlets are functioning normally nationwide. "Don't believe in rumours. We have adequate fuel stocks and the government is making all efforts to reach them to consumers," she said. She said "panic buying was reported in some areas due to rumours", leading to unusually high sales and crowding at petrol pumps, even though "adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available at all petrol pumps". "There are enough stock of petrol and diesel and there is no

The Telangana government on Wednesday debunked claims of a fuel shortage and advised the public to ignore the rumours that have triggered panic buying across the state. As motorists began rushing to fuel stations in Hyderabad amid rumours of shortage since Tuesday evening, the Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association reassured the public that there is adequate stock available with HPCL, IOCL and BPCL, and the supply chains are functioning normally. To address the situation, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will hold a review meeting here on Wednesday with officials on petrol, LPG cylinders and urea stocks, an official release said. After many fuel stations were overcrowded across Hyderabad, motorists were advised not to store fuel in large containers unnecessarily. Gujarat govt assures adequate fuel supply in state, warns against hoarding

The Gujarat government on Wednesday said there is no shortage of fuel in the state despite the ongoing crisis in West Asia, and warned of strict action against hoarding and attempts to create artificial scarcity. The recent long queues at fuel stations were the fallout of panic buying triggered by rumours rather than any actual shortage, said Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Rushikesh Patel in the legislative assembly, pushing for PNG (piped natural gas) adoption. Patel made the statement in the House after BJP members Mahesh Kaswala, Chaitanya Desai and Harshad Patel raised the issue amid concerns over supply of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. "There is no problem anywhere in the entire state regarding petrol and diesel. Adequate steps have been taken to ensure continuous supply to petrol pumps," he said, and urged the public not to believe in rumours. During the recent "panic" triggered by rumours, fuel pumps sold nearly four to five times their normal daily volumes, which itse

No fuel shortage, say oil firms; urge public to avoid panic buying

State-owned oil companies on Wednesday said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in the country, urging citizens not to believe rumours circulating on social media or resort to panic buying. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the nation's largest oil firm, said "there is no shortage of petrol or diesel", adding that its outlets are "well-stocked and fully operational". It cautioned that rumours "can create unnecessary concern and disrupt normal supply patterns" and urged citizens to "avoid panic buying and rely only on verified information". Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) termed reports of fuel shortages in certain areas "completely unfounded", asserting that "there is no shortage of fuel across the nation". The company said India is a net exporter of petrol and diesel and has "adequate stocks of crude oil, petrol, diesel and ATF", with supply chains operating "smoothly without any disruption". It added that it remains "fully operational and committed to ensuring ...

LPG supply to be cut off if households refuse PNG switch: Govt order

The government has mandated that cooking gas LPG supply to households will be discontinued if consumers fail to switch to piped natural gas where such connectivity is available, under a new order aimed at accelerating gas network expansion and reducing reliance on a single fuel. As India grapples with an LPG shortage due to the war in West Asia disrupting supplies from key sources, the government is pushing households and commercial users to switch to piped natural gas (PNG) -- a more convenient alternative that is both domestically produced and sourced through diversified supply. PNG is continuously supplied to kitchen burners through pipelines, eliminating the need to book refills. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has notified the Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution (Through Laying, Building, Operation and Expansion of Pipelines and Other Facilities) Order, 2026, aimed at accelerating pipeline infrastructure, easing approvals and promoting a shift from LPG to
