Thane records 17 new Covid-19 infections in a day; active case tally at 120

As many as 17 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its infection count to 7,47,235, a health official said on Sunday. With the addition of the latest cases on Saturday, there are currently 120 active COVID-19 cases in Thane, which comes under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, he said. The death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,967. The recovery count has reached 7,35,899 he added.

Maharashtra sees 119 new Covid cases, one death in a day; active tally 821

Maharashtra on Friday recorded 119 new cases of coronavirus and a fatality that raised the tally of infections to 81,35,010 and toll to 1,48,403, an official from the state health department said. At least 156 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the count of recoveries to 79,85,786, he said. On Thursday, the state had recorded 108 cases and zero fatality. As per a bulletin issued by the health department, of the latest infections, Mumbai accounted for 13 cases, while the only casualty of the day was reported in Pune. With this, the state is now left with 821 active cases, it said. The fatality rate stands at 1.82 per cent, while the recovery rate is at 98.17 per cent, it was stated. As many as 15,410 swab samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests conducted to 8,55,05,054. Bharat Jodo Yatra proceeds to Shegaon in its last leg in Maharashtra

The Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress resumed from Balapur in Akola district on the 12th day of its Maharashtra leg on Friday morning and is heading towards Shegaon in Buldhana district, where Rahul Gandhi will address a public rally. The yatra began at 6 am from a Zilla Parishad school at Kupta in Balapur. It will reach Shegaon during its morning break, where the Congress leader will visit the famous Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj temple. 8 suspected measles deaths, 503 cases logged in Maha; CM reviews situation

Maharashtra has reported 503 cases of measles so far this year and eight deaths suspected to be caused by the viral infection - all in Mumbai -- the health department said on Thursday as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed the situation and asked officials to give special attention to hospitalised patients. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in a separate bulletin, said the metropolis has reported eight suspected deaths due to the disease and 169 confirmed cases so far. As per the bulletin, 25 new patients of measles were admitted in the city, taking the number of hospitalised persons to 105. While two patients are on oxygen support, 38 others were discharged from hospitals. Maharashtra sees 108 new Covid cases, 131 recover; active tally 859

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 108 COVID-19 cases and 131 recoveries, while the fatality count stood unchanged, a health official said. The state's tally is 81,34,891, its recovery count stands at 79,85,630, and the toll remains 1,48,402, he said. The addition to the tally is a dip from the 156 cases reported on Wednesday, he added. The active tally of the Maharashtra was 859, he added. Mumbai led with 26 of the new cases, the official said. As per health department data, the recovery rate in the state stands at 98.17 per cent. So far, 8,54,89,644 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Maharashtra, including 13,617 in the last 24 hours, as per official data. Maharashtra govt approves 6% dearness allowance hike for MSRTC employees

The Maharashtra government has approved a six per cent hike in dearness allowance for the employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), a top official said on Wednesday. Shekhar Channe, vice chairman and managing director of MSRTC, told PTI that the government has given the nod for increasing DA to 34 per cent from the existing 28 per cent. The hike will put a financial burden of Rs 15 crore per month on the state-owned public transport body. Shrirang Barge, a union leader, said they were happy with the decision though it was pending for four months. "MSRTC employees should also get dearness allowance arrears as in the past the state government has not paid it," Barge said. The corporation has a workforce of more than 80,000 employees. A special court here on Tuesday allowed the plea of former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik, arrested in a money laundering case, seeking permission to undergo diagnostic examination PET-CT. Maharashtra reports 67 new Covid cases, no casualty; active tally 962

Maharashtra on Monday reported 67 new cases of coronavirus that took the tally of infections to 81,34,507, an official from the state health department said. The toll remained unchanged at 1,48,401, while the count of recoveries rose to 79,85,144 after 116 patients recovered from the disease, the official said. Of the latest cases, Pune circle led with 26 new cases, followed by 25 in Mumbai circle, nine in Nashik, two in Latur, three in Akola and one each in Nagpur and Kolhapur, he said. With this, the state is now left with 962 active cases, the official said. A total of 8,54,47,938 swab samples have been tested in the state so far, of which 6,458 were tested in the last 24 hours, he said. The recovery rate in the state stood at 98.16 per cent, while the fatality rate was 1.82 per cent, the official said. Maharashtra govt orders change in writing style of 2 Marathi letters

The Maharashtra government has ordered that letters 'La' and 'Sha' in the Marathi language, that have "Hindi influence" currently, will be written in a certain way in the Devanagri script, an official said on Sunday. The changes will be applicable in all government communication as well as textbooks recommended by the state education board, he said. "The letters 'La' and 'Sha' are written in a different way currently. This style has influence of Hindi. The state government has now decided through an order that it will be written in the Devanagari script," he explained. The state government appointed committee for language has also recommended the usage of a 'chandrabindu', one of various linguistic symbols called diacritics, to indicate the nasal pronunciation of a vowel, the official added. There are 36 consonants and 16 initial vowels in Marathi in the Devanagari script, a writing system used by more than 120 languages.
