Spencer Retail reports turnover of Rs 2,187 crore in FY 19, plans to acquire Nature's Basket

Spencer's Retail, part of the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, reported turnover of Rs 2,187 crore for the year ended March 31 and announced a plan to acquire Nature's Basket, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Godrej Industries, for Rs 300 crore.Nature's Basket is a neighbourhood convenience store format grocery retailer with products ranging from fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and meat, artisanal bread, fast-moving consumer goods and staples.Spencer's is a multi-format retailer providing quality products across categories such as food, personal care, fashion, home essentials, electrical and electronics to its key consumers. Positive signs for Goa mining to be visible in six months: CM

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that some positive signs will be visible in the next six months as far as resumption of the mining industry in the state is concerned. The five-decade-old mining industry in the coastal state came to a standstill in March last year, after the Supreme Court quashed the second renewal of 88 iron ore mining leases. Addressing an event organised by Sesa Football Academy on Friday, Sawant said, "The state government would certainly ensure that the mining industry becomes operational once again." "We are trying our level best to restart the mining industry in Goa. Since the time I have taken over as the chief minister, things are changing. Charitable trust in Rajkot runs 'Roti Bank' to fight hunger

In order to ensure that no person goes to bed hungry, a charitable trust named Shree Bolbala Charitable Trust based in Rajkot has come up with an initiative to feed the needy.The initiative, called 'Roti Bank', has grown within a few months of its inception. With the help of auto-rickshaw drivers, the bank collects home-cooked rotis and later distributes it among not only the needy in the city but also to the patients in hospitals."There is a concept in Roti Bank. We collect rotis from more than 1000 households and every hour we are collecting. The volunteers collect two rotis from each household and then deliver to the needy across the city," said Jayesh Upadhyay, Trustee, Shree Bolbala Charitable Trust.Another member of the trust said, "We want to ensure that no one sleeps with an empty stomach.
