MHRD issues order for revision of allowances as per 7th pay commission

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on Monday issued order for revision of allowances of teachers, equivalent academic cadre, Registrars, Finance Officers and Controller of Examinations in the Universities and Colleges as per the Recommendations of Seventh Central Pay Commission.The order will also be applicable over centrally funded Deemed to be Universities.As per MHRD, the orders came into force with immediate effect.The revision of allowances is likely to benefit 30000 teaching and equivalent staff in Central Universities and 5500 in Deemed to be Universities.The Central government on Jan 15 had approved a proposal to extend the 7th Central Pay Commission to the teachers and other academic staff of the state government and government-aided degree level technical institution in the country, which will have additional Central government liability of Rs 1241.78 crore.

UP DyCM Sharma advises class 10, 12 students to not be afraid of examinations

Ahead of the UP board examinations for class 10 and 12, UP Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma Monday advised students to not be afraid of examinations. In a message to students, Sharma said, "The class 10th board examination is the first milestone in a student's life, while the class 12th board examination is the second one. Both these examinations decide the future, and hence they are extremely important." Duke medical school apologises over complaint about Chinese

Duke University's medical school has issued an apology and launched a review after an administrator admonished students over speaking Chinese in a school building. Megan Neely, who served as graduate studies director in the biostatistics master's program, wrote an email Friday urging students to "commit to using English" in the building housing the program. She said in the message to an email list for the program's students that two faculty members came to her to complain about students loudly speaking Chinese in a common area. She wrote that both were disappointed the students weren't working to improve their English and "wanted to write down the names so they could remember them if the students ever interviewed for an internship or asked to work with them for a master's project". 29 girl students return to school hostel

Twenty nine girl students of a state run residential high school in Gajapati district, who fled from the hostel on Saturday have returned to their school on Monday, officials said. The girl students had fled from the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Development run school at Antaraba under Mohona block of Gajapati district on Saturday night and remained untraced for about 20 hours till they were located on Sunday night, the officials said. The 29 girl students returned to the school on Monday. District Welfare Officer (DWO), Gajapati, Santosh Rath said the students were rescued from a house located near Tikilipadar village and were brought to Chandragiri girl's high school. They were later shifted to their school. Rath said that preliminary inquiry indicates that the girls had fled from the school hostel due to differences between then and some teachers and the headmaster. India to participate in PISA in 2021

India will participate in the International Student Assessment (PISA), which tests the learning levels of 15-year-old students, in 2021. The HRD Ministry signed an agreement with the OECD, which conducts PISA every three years, on Monday, confirming India's participation in the triennial international survey that assesses students in reading, mathematics, science and collaborative problem-solving. Participation in PISA allows benchmarking performance against a wide range of countries. PISA uses test items aligned with international benchmarks. Test items are adapted to the local context and language, pilot tested and validated. "India will participate in PISA in 2021. The participation will assess the health of the education system and motivate other schools and states in the subsequent cycles. Kejriwal lays foundation stone for construction of 11,000 new classrooms in Delhi schools

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday laid foundation stone for construction of 11,000 new classrooms in over 200 government schools in Delhi. This is the second phase of infrastructure expansion by the Delhi government after construction of 8,000 new classrooms between 2015 and 2018. "Building infrastructure isn't rocket science, but the way how confidence has been instilled in the teachers of Delhi government schools, through exposures at the most reputed institutes of the world like Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard," Kejriwal said. School evacuated over bomb threat in Jaipur

A hoax call about a bomb in a school here created panic among students and staff on Monday, police said. According to the school administration, they received a call about a bomb being planted at the campus, police said. Soon, the school was evacuated and the bomb disposal squad reached the spot and thoroughly checked the area but no explosive was found, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sanganer police station Lakhan Singh said. "After much chaos, the school went on to commence the scheduled programme of the day," he added. A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated, the SHO said.

AICTE chief moots industry-institute interaction

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe has underscored the importance of industry-institute interaction. Sahasrabudhe, who was addressing a workshop at a private engineering institute here Sunday, said the council encouraged more industry-institute interaction and innovation in entrepreneurship. The AICTE chief also recommended mandatory internships and mandatory induction programmes in industries for engineering students. As part of the effort to support technical education in the country, the council effected major changes and modifications in the AICTE-approval process handbook 2019, he said. The handbook was for inviting applications for approval from all the existing and new technical institutions for conducting technical programme, including management courses for the academic session 2019-20. BSF's 'Bharat Darshan' tour marks colourful closing ceremony

A tour organised by the BSF for the students of Jammu and Kashmir's remote border areas to various historical and cultural places in the country marked a colourful closing ceremony Monday. The 'Bharat Darshan' tour is organised by the Border Security Force (BSF) as part of the confidence building measures. 14 school children injured as bus plunges into culvert in AP

Atleast 14 school children were injured, three of them seriously, when their school bus fell into a culvert in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh Monday. The seriously injured students have been shifted to the Government General Hospital in Guntur for better treatment, according to the local Sub-Divisional Police Officer. An official release here said the bus was carrying about 50 students belonging to a private school and was on its way to Macherla town when it lost control and fell into a culvert on a rivulet. Driver of the school tried to avoid another vehicle coming in the opposite direction and steered to the extreme right, leading to the accident. The injured students were first rushed to the Government Hospital in Macherla town. Macherla MLA P Ramakrishna Reddy visited the hospital and consoled the students parents. Andhra Pradesh: Bus carrying 50 students turns turtle, 2 critically injured

Two students were seriously injured while 15 suffered minor injuries after a school bus turned turtle in Guntur district on Monday.The two students who have suffered major injuries have been shifted to Guntur government hospital whereas the others have been taken to a private hospital by their parents, informed the police.The driver of the school bus who identifies himself as SK Tajuddinis is being questioned by the police.Veldurti police station's ASI Srinivas Rao told ANI, "A bus of Krishnaveni talent school was taking almost 50 children to the school this morning.
