HC allows impleading plea filed by Vaiko in Sterlite case
The Madras High Court on Wednesday allowed DMK chief Vaiko and an activist to be be impleaded in the petition by Vedanta group firm Sterlite Copper against a Tamil Nadu government order closing its copper unit in Tuticorin district. The court accepted the pleas by Vaiko, activist Fathima besides five others that they should be made a party to the case as they "have played a role in one or more proceedings either before NGT or this court or Supreme Court." It, however, dismissed a batch of petitions from supporters of the Sterlite company, saying there is nothing on record to show that these parties have approached any other forum. Cabinet nod to bill on institutionalised arbitration
The Union Cabinet Wednesday approved a bill for the creation of an independent and autonomous regime for institutionalised domestic and international arbitration. The New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (NDIAC) Bill, 2019, which seeks to replace an ordinance issued in March this year by the previous government will be introduced in the coming session of Parliament beginning Monday. A statement issued by the government said the Bill provides for setting up of an independent an autonomous body for institutional arbitration and to acquire and transfer the undertakings of the International Centre For Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR) to the New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (NDIAC) with effect from March 2 this year. Man doubts his lover's loyalty, kills her
A 25-year-old man has been booked for allegedly stabbing his 22-year-old girlfriend to death suspecting that she was cheating on him, police said Wednesday. The incident occurred in Chandannagar area on Tuesday evening where the deceased, Veena Patle, had gone to meet the accused, Kiran Shinde, who had gone incommunicado since the last few days. "Shinde and Patle were working in an IT firm as back office support staffs and their friendship turned into a relationship," a police official said. Shinde, however, of late started suspecting that Patle was cheating on him, he added. "It has been revealed that since Shinde was not in contact with anyone for the last few days, Patle and their common friend Prakash Gapat came to Chandannagar area on Tuesday night," he said. During an argument, Shinde stabbed Patle with a sharp-edged weapon and fled, he said, adding that the victim died at hospital. Shinde as been absconding since the crime, he added.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a "corporate type smuggling" racket and arrested a mastermind and his relative who were involved in many cases with the seizure of about 360 kg of gold worth over Rs 108 crore in the past five years, an official said on Wednesday.
2 dead, 3 injured after car overturns in Kalaburagi
At least two people were killed and two others were injured after their car turned and flipped near Kadaganchi village here on Wednesday.The deceased were identified as 38-year-old Sayappa and his 11-year-old daughter Sandhya, officials said.The three injured persons have been shifted to a nearby hospital for further medical care and assistance.A case has been registered in Narona Police Station and investigation in the matter is underway.

Plea deal confirmed for Israel PM's wife in delivery meals case
Israeli prosecutors confirmed Wednesday a plea bargain has been reached with the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over accusations she used state funds to fraudulently pay for hundreds of meals. Under the deal in the case that has received intense media coverage, Sara Netanyahu would plead guilty to a lesser charge of exploiting the mistake of another person as well as pay a fine and compensation. A statement from Israeli prosecutors said Netanyahu would be fined 10,000 shekels ($2,800, 2,500 euros) and have to reimburse the state another 45,000 shekels. The agreement must be approved by the court, with a June 16 hearing set. Unconfirmed reports of the deal had emerged in late May. Three brothers held guilty of killing girl
A special CBI court Wednesday held three men guilty of shooting dead a 17-year-old girl five years ago in a village near here. Special Judge Vinayak Singh also convicted the trio, Rohtash, Sunil and Lalit, all brothers, of injuring the girl's parents in a fight over land dispute with them in Muthber village under Bhorakala police station in the district in March 2014. The judge decided to pronounce sentence in the case Thursday. The case was assigned to the CBI for investigation by the Supreme Court. Public Prosecutor Darshan Singh said the case pertained to a fight over the land dispute in which the assailants barged into the girl's house and attacked her parents Suresh Pal and Anita. ACB official hurt as graft-accused cop fires bullet
An ACB official was injured Wednesday when a police inspector, who is facing corruption charges, allegedly fired a bullet while resisting his arrest at a police station in Akola in Maharashtra, police said. According to police, the accused Nandkishor Nagalkar fired from his service revolver at Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials who had reached Pinjar police station to arrest him. A police official said the bullet hit ACB staffer Sachin Dhatrak's leg. The police inspector was later arrested by the ACB, he said, adding that Dhatrak was undergoing treatment.

Eight-year-old girl gang-raped in MP, two boys detained
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two boys at a village in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Wednesday. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Sarai police station, 60 kms from the district headquarters, on Tuesday and the two minor accused were detained Wednesday, police said. "The girl had gone to bathe at a water body in the village when the two boys sexually assaulted her. On reaching home, she complained about health problems, after which her parents took her to the district hospital," district superintendent of police Abhijeet Ranjan told PTI. Gang poses as I-T officials, rob bizman of Rs 81 lakh; 13 held
In a crime that looked like a real life version of a Bollywood potboiler, over a dozen men posed as Income Tax sleuths and robbed cash and goods worth more than Rs 81 lakh from a businessman in suburban Dahisar last week, police said Wednesday. Police have arrested 13 people, including the mastermind of the crime Altaf Kagdi alias Sameer, in the last four days while search is on for four others, an official said. The men gained entry into the house of the victim, Kishan Belwate (59), who runs a courier service, on June 8 afternoon by claiming that they had come there to collect illegal cash, the official said, adding that the accused even showed Belwate their "identity cards". Minor girl pregnant after being raped by friend six months ago, accused on the run
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her friend in northwest Delhi's Bharat Nagar area, police said Wednesday. The matter came to limelight on Tuesday after the minor girl complained of uneasiness, after which she was taken to a hospital. During medical examination, she was found to be pregnant, the police said. A complaint was filed with the police by the girl's parents on Tuesday after she narrated the incident to them. "In the police complaint, the victim's parents alleged that the accused befriended their daughter, who was studying in a girls school in Bharat Nagar, and raped her around six months ago," said a senior police officer. The accused had also threatened the girl not to disclose the incident to anyone, police said. A case under relevant penal sections has been registered and police are trying to nab the accused, the officer added.
