Three persons, including a woman and her son, drowned in a river in Maharashtra's Nashik district when they went there for washing clothes, police said on Monday. The mishap took place on Sunday when the woman along with her son and a teenaged girl from their neighbourhood went to the Kadva river at Ojhe village in Dindori taluka, Vani police station in-charge Praveen Tadavi said. While the woman was washing clothes, her son slipped into the water and started drowning, he said. The woman and the girl then jumped into the river to save him, but all three of them drowned, he said. Locals, police and some lifeguards later rushed to the spot and the bodies were fished out, Tadavi said. The deceased were identified as Anita Waghmare (29), her son Omkar Waghmare (5) and Prajakta Gangode (15). A case was registered and the bodies were handed over to their relatives after the postmortem, the official said.
The Supreme Court will hear on Tuesday a plea challenging the arrest of journalist Prashant Kanojia in connection with an alleged defamatory post on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.A vacation bench comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and Ajay Rastogi agreed to hear the plea moved by Kanojia's wife Jigisha.Senior lawyer Nitya Ramakrishnan, who appeared for the petitioner, submitted that the UP Police did not follow the due procedure of law while arresting the journalist.Kanojia was arrested on Saturday for making certain "objectionable comments" against Adityanath on social media and for "spreading rumours". Three people, including two women, were killed near Maharajganj railway crossing here when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a speeding truck, police said Monday. Khar police arrested three persons, who allegedly performed stunts by bending out of the windows of a moving car on Carter Road here, on Saturday.The incident took place on June 7. Mere possession of sexually explicit photos will not amount to a crime under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, the Kerala High Court has ruled. The court, while quashing criminal proceedings against a man and a woman, however, made it clear that publication or distribution of such photos is punishable under the law. "If an adult person has a photograph of himself or herself in his or her possession which is sexually explicit in nature, the provisions of the Act 60 of 1986 will not apply, unless the prosecution has a case that those photographs were distributed or published for advertisement or for any other incidental purpose," Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan said in a recent order. The high court gave its verdict on a petition seeking to quash the proceedings against the man and the woman, pending before a magistrate court in Kollam. A fifty-year-old Indian national was stabbed to death and another injured when a quarrel broke out among tenants living in an apartment in Israel's Tel Aviv city, according to police. Jerome Arthar Philip from Kerala was stabbed on Saturday night in his apartment in the Neve Sha'anan Street. He succumbed to his injuries at Tel Aviv's Ichilov hospital. Other victim, Peter Xavier, 60, also from Kerala, is said to be in stable condition now. Police suspect that the man was murdered, and have arrested two suspects -- who are also Indian citizens. They lived with the victim in the apartment. An initial investigation by police revealed that a quarrel broke out among the tenants during which two of them were stabbed in their upper bodies, sustaining severe and moderate injuries. A six-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by a 20-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday evening when the minor was playing outside his house in Kakroli village, they said. According to the complaint lodged by the boy's family, the accused sodomised him behind a nearby shop. The boy later narrated the incident to his parents. Four men were allegedly thrashed by locals and forced to drink urine in Dayor village of Fatehabad on the suspicion of cow smuggling.On receiving a phone call on Sunday, police reached the spot and rescued the men from villagers.
