Kerala CM congratulates PM Modi on victory

: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Friday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his colleagues for the BJP-led NDA's stellar performance in the Lok Sabha polls. In a message to Modi, Vijayan said meaningful cooperation from the Centre was expected in the best interests of the state and country, a statement from the Chief Minister's Officer said. The BJP-led NDA won 350 seats in the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls, results for which were announced Thursday. In Kerala, while the CPI(M)-LDF managed to win only one seat, the opposition Congress-led UDF made a clean sweep garnering 19 of the 20 seats.

Only one of 4 Chhattisgarh Cong MLAs fielded in LS polls wins

The Congress strategy of fielding four MLAs, elected just six months ago, in the Lok Sabha polls in Chhattisgarh failed to pay off with only one of them emerging victorious. The other three tasted defeated at the hands of BJP candidates. Barring the ruling Congress, no other party in the state had fielded its sitting MLAs in the general election held in April. An upbeat Congress, after winning 68 of the 90 Assembly seats in the last years election, had fielded its incumbent legislators in four Lok Sabha seats - Bastar, Surguja, Raigarh, all three reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates, and Mahasamund, hoping to repeats its recent success. BJP's Diya Kumari is the second member of Jaipur's erstwhile royal family after her grandmother and charismatic 'Rajmata' Gayatri Devi to have been elected to the Lok Sabha. BJP gets over 58 per cent vote share in Rajasthan

The BJP, which won 24 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan where it had lost the 2018 assembly polls to the Congress, saw its vote share increase from 54.94 per cent in 2014 to 58.5 per cent in this general election. The saffron party had contested on 24 seats and its ally Rastriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) on one seat, which it won. The Congress, which could not win a single Lok Sabha constituency in the desert state, also witnessed an increase in vote share from 30.36 per cent in 2014 to 34.2 per cent this time, according to Election Commission data. The vote share of the BJP and the Congress increased by 3.56 and 3.84 percentage points respectively. The BSP, CPI, CPM saw a fall in vote share by 1.27, 0.12 and 0.09 percentage points respectively as compared to 2014, according to EC data.
