8 dead as boat carrying football team capsizes in Uganda
Ugandan authorities on Monday confirmed that at least eight people died, while several others are missing after a boat carrying a football team and its fans capsized amidst a thunderstorm on Lake Albert here on Sunday.The exact number of people on the boat is unknown. Rescue operations are on, as fishermen and a marine unit have rescued more than 30 people from the scene, according to CNN.The incident occurred just a few minutes after the boat left the dock in Hoima. The team, along with its fans, was travelling to a soccer match when the vessel capsized during a thunderstorm.The death toll is expected to rise as the passengers were not wearing life jackets.Scores of people have lost their lives in Uganda in similar ways. At least 35 people lost their lives after a cruise boat capsized on Lake Victoria last year. Before that, at least 30 members of a soccer team and its fans died after a boat they were partying on capsized on Lake Albert.

IFA elections: Utpal Ganguli steps aside, Dey comes in fray
Twelve years after he became the secretary of Indian Football Association (IFA), the parent body of the sport in West Bengal, Utpal Ganguli on Monday said he would not contest again. Race for the seat has heated up after former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint-secretary Biswarup Dey had shown his interest. "I will take a decision after talking to committee members," Dey told PTI about the upcoming IFA annual general body which is likely to be held by June 30. Dey had earlier demanded account statements from the Ganguli regime. "We have heard that he has organised the local league arranging sponsors on his own. It's a commendable thing but IFA is not just about the league only," Dey had earlier said. Ganguli, meanwhile, has announced his decision earlier on Monday. Dhoni wants to fulfil dream of becoming painter post retirement
Mahendra Singh Dhoni Monday shared his childhood dream of becoming a painter and his plans after quitting cricket, fuelling fresh speculations about his retirement. Displaying few of his paintings amid the chatter around a possible retirement after the upcoming ICC World Cup, Dhoni said in a video, "I wanted to share a secret with all of you. Right from childhood I always wanted to become an artist, I have played a lot of cricket so I decided it's time for me now to take up what I wanted so I have made a few paintings." SAI clears open trials for Asian Championships on June 7
Top gymnasts, including Dipa Karmakar and Rakesh Patra, breathed a sigh of relief after the Sports Authority of India cleared Gymnastic Federation of India's proposal to have an open trial for the Asian Championships on June 7 at the IG stadium. Over 12 senior gymnasts had written to SAI, Sports Ministry and GFI, expressing concerns regarding the trials, which were announced on May 17, with just a two-day notice for the Mongolia event to be held from June 19 to 22. GFI had said that the selection trials were not open but limited to just 8-10 gymnasts, who were selected for the National Coaching Camp during the trials conducted by SAI on April 12 and 13. However, SAI decided to postpone the trials after a meeting with the GFI officials.
