Cyclone Vayu: IAF C-17 aircraft lands at Jamnagar with NDRF team

The IAF C-17 aircraft which planned to airlift about 160 personnel of NDRF from Vijayawada, has landed at Jamnagar with the team to carry out the humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR) missions for the people affected by Cyclone Vayu in the state, IAF said.Earlier on Tuesday, the Indian Air Force had tweeted that its C-17 Globemaster got airborne from New Delhi for Vijayawada."Headquarters South Western Air Command has proactively enhanced its preparedness to meet any contingencies which may occur due to cyclonic storm Vayu. Manhattan crash: Deceased pilot wasn't certified to fly in bad weather

Tim McCormack, the pilot who died after his helicopter crash-landed on the rooftop of a high-rise building in midtown Manhattan was not licensed to be airborne during inclement weather, officials said on Tuesday.According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, pilots are required to have an instrument rating when flying in poor weather conditions, the agency's officials told Fox News.The 58-year-old pilot, who had a flying experience of more than a decade, did not have the instrument rating and hence, was not licensed to fly in the downpour which lashed New York, including Manhattan on Monday, officials said.Meanwhile, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) air safety investigator Doug Brazy said that the agency was still investigating what caused the crash.He added that the wreckage of the helicopter was almost burnt completely, but officials were trying their best to identify whatever they could recover from the site.A preliminary report would be released in .

One case of Ebola confirmed in Uganda: WHO

A five-year-old boy is being treated for Ebola in Uganda, the first case since an outbreak in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo 10 months ago, the World Health Organisation said Tuesday. "The confirmed case is a 5-year-old Congolese child who traveled from the DRC with his family on 9th June 2019. The child and his family entered the country through Bwera Border post and sought medical care," the WHO wrote on Twitter. Uganda's health ministry and the WHO have sent a team to the western town of Kasese to trace likely cases, and vaccinate those who may have come into contact with the patient, the post added. Uganda has been on high alert since the outbreak in the eastern DRC, where more than 2,000 cases of the highly contagious virus have been recorded, two-thirds of which have been fatal.

Noida: In a first, three jailed for violating 'No helmet, no petrol rule'

Three men were arrested Tuesday for engaging in a scuffle with petrol pump staffers who refused to fill fuel in their motorcycle as they were not wearing helmets, officials said. This is the first arrest made since the "No Helmet No Petrol" rule came into effect in Noida and Greater Noida on June 1, prohibiting two-wheeler riders without helmet from getting fuel in a major bid to check road traffic violations. "Accused Shahadat, Zishan and Zahid had reached the petrol pump in Sector 71 where they engaged in a scuffle with pump staffers and demanded petrol forcefully," a district administration official said. "When the matter was reported, the police booked them under Section 151 in The Code Of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences ). BJP wants Telangana govt to crack missing people cases

The BJP's Telangana unit president K Laxman Tuesday demanded that the state government take special interest to crack cases of missing persons and establish a special wing to effectively deal with them. He was responding to media reports that 545 people had gone missing this month. "The growing number of girls who are missing shows that some gangs are expanding their activities due to the state government not responding in time," he said in a statement. Onset of cyclone "Vayu" will trigger heavy rains in Goa and the Konkan area for the next two days, the IMD said Tuesday. The department has issued the "orange" warning for Goa in view of the deep depression over East Central and adjoining South East Arabian sea, which has intensified into cyclonic storm. From Jaguar to AN-32, IAF lost nearly 10 aircraft this year

The Indian Air Force has lost nearly 10 aircraft this year, the latest being an AN-32, whose wreckage was spotted on Tuesday in a heavily- forested mountainous terrain in Arunachal Pradesh, eight days after it went missing after taking off from Assam's Jorhat. From Mirage 2000 to MiG-27, many of these aircraft had crashed in the month of February, officials said.
