Gladys Knight confirms she doesn't have pancreatic cancer

Singer Gladys Knight confirmed that she never said that she had pancreatic cancer, like her late friend Aretha Franklin.The 'Empress of Soul' singer while speaking to a local news channel earlier had said that she and her friend had discussed the same disease, the last time they met, acording to Page Six. Knight in a statement clarified, the "same disease" meant that they both had cancer.Knight went on to confirm that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer.The 'superwoman' singer added that due to early detection she was able to survive cancer.Further in the statement, she even expressed her sadness at the death of her friend.Knight started off her career with the band 'The Pips' in the 1950s. She then went on to win seven Grammy awards later on in her career.

Venezuelan movie 'The Family' up for Oscar-run

Venezuela has officially selected 'The Family' for submitting in the 'foreign-language film category' at the 91st Oscars.The movie, directed by debutant Gustavo Rondon Cordova, premiered at the 2017 Critics' Week in Cannes Film festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter.According to the report, the movie tells "the story of a father and his 12-year-old kid who have to run away after the son knifes down a peer from a potentially vengeful family in the slums of Caracas, and set out on a life-changing journey."Notably, Venezuela submitted a film for the Oscars back in 1978, which till now hasn't been considered for a nomination.On August 31, Palestine officially chose its documentary film 'Istiyad ashbah' (Ghost Hunting), and on August 30, Germany chose 'Never Look Away' to be submitted in the 'foreign-language film' category.Earlier, Turkey chose 'The Wild Pear Tree' and Ukraine chose their film 'Donbass' to be submitted under the said category.

Nandita Das' 'Manto' to open Singapore South Asian International Film Festival 2018

Actor-filmmaker Nandita Das' directorial venture "Manto", featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role as Sadat Hassan Manto, will be the opening film of the second edition of Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (SGSAIFF). The festival, to be held from October 5 to 14 in Singapore, will also include the awards ceremony. "We are delighted to screen 'Manto' as the opening film at SGSAIFF. Manto was very much a South Asian writer. But unlike the Europeans, we South Asians do not own this identity, despite many cultural and social similarities amongst the countries in the region. Therefore, it is important to support such festivals that celebrate cinema from the Subcontinent. Nat Geo to resume production of Morgan Freeman Series post investigation

Nat Geo is all set to resume the production of Morgan Freeman's 'The Story of God' following their investigation about claims of sexual misconduct against the actor.According to Variety, the network said in a statement that while the recent allegations were in no way related to their work with Freeman, they had paused the production of the new season as a precaution, to let its parent company Fox complete a thorough investigation on the matter.The company claimed that the results of Fox's investigation revealed no incidents of concern during any of their work with Freeman.
