US launches fresh defensive strikes on Iran after drone threat near Hormuz

The US military on Wednesday conducted its second defensive strike this week against Iran after officials said they observed aggressive activity from the Iranian military. Two US officials told The Associated Press that US military forces shot down four Iranian drones and struck a base that was about to launch a fifth drone after determining they posed a threat to the Strait of Hormuz. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss sensitive military operations. President Donald Trump asserted on Wednesday that Iran is "negotiating on fumes" and insisted that November's midterm elections will not make him rush into a deal to end the nearly three-month-old conflict that has spurred unease across the global economy. Speaking at the start of a Cabinet meeting, Trump expressed confidence that a deal is near. Over the weekend, he even declared that his administration and Tehran had "largely negotiated" a settlement, though the talks are still in flux. The president i

SC sets aside CCI's ₹202 crore penalty on Amazon in Future Group deal

The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside the NCLAT's June 2022 order which had rejected US e-commerce giant Amazon's appeal against an anti-trust suspension of its investment deal with Future Group. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta also set aside the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) December 17, 2021 order which had levied a Rs 202 crore penalty on Amazon and suspended its deal with Future. "In view of the findings recorded above, the appeal is allowed. The impugned judgement dated June 13, 2022 passed by the NCLAT and order dated December 17, 2021 passed by the CCI are set aside," Justice Nath said while pronouncing the verdict. The top court said if any amount was deposited or recovered from Amazon pursuant to these orders, the same be refunded within eight weeks. The bench delivered its verdict on a plea filed by Amazon challenging the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) June 2022 order.

No forceful possession of Gymkhana Club land on June 5: SG to Delhi HC

The central government will not take forceful possession of the Delhi Gymkhana Club Land on June 5, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. Followings the submission, Justice Avneesh Jhingan said no interim order was required on the lawsuits by members and staff of the club against the Centre's May 22 order asking the club to hand over the premises. The top law officer submitted before Justice Jhingan that the Centre's notice to the club was to terminate the perpetual lease in favour of the club and seek re-entry. However, any proceedings for eviction from the premises will be initiated as per the law after giving due notice to the occupants, SG Mehta assured. The judge issued summons to the Centre and the club's management on the lawsuits and sought their written statements, Mehta also informed that the club's present governing body, which comprises nominees of the Centre, has already written to the authorities to raise their grievances. 'Does not breach net neutrality': Airtel defends Priority Postpaid service

Bharti Airtel has defended its new "Priority Postpaid" service before a Department of Telecommunications (DoT) panel, asserting that the offering, powered by 5G network slicing, neither violates net neutrality norms nor degrades service quality for prepaid users. According to the submission made by Airtel in response to a clarification sought by the Committee on Communications and Information Technology, the company said not allowing the use of mainstream features of 5G to offer services will jeopardise the potential of 6G in the country. "Priority Postpaid is implemented in a content-neutral manner and is fully consistent with the existing TRAI and DoT framework. There is no blocking, throttling, content-specific prioritisation, zero-rating, or preferential treatment of any application," Airtel said. Airtel had launched "Priority Postpaid" plans on May 19, which promise consistent speed even in crowded markets for postpaid customers. "Airtel Priority feature does not degrade the .

Delhi Gymkhana seeks alternate land amid takeover row over unpaid dues

The general committee overseeing Delhi Gymkhana Club on Monday urged the Centre not to disrupt the functioning of the institution, even as it emerged that three notices were sent to the club management since September last year over pending ground rent dues of around Rs 48 crore. Sources in the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said that the last notice was sent in April, just weeks before the the eviction order issued on May 22. Some members of the club on Monday alleged that they had not been informed in advance about the unpaid dues. According to sources aware of the developments, the Land and Development Office (L&DO) had asked the club several times to deposit the pending ground rent through notices sent in September last year, March 2026 and April 2026. In April this year, the L&DO cautioned that if the dues were not cleared within a week, it would proceed with steps to reclaim the property and resume possession of the club premises.
