IPL 2024: Shreyas Iyer returns to KKR captaincy, Rana named his deputy

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will lead Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024, the management announced on Thursday. The 29-year-old had missed the entire IPL 2023 season because of a back injury that required surgery in London in April, forcing KKR to give captaincy to Nitish Rana. Making the announcement, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said: We are delighted that he's back and at the helm as captain. Shreyas made a comeback in the Asia Cup in September and returned to form in the home series against Australia with an 86-ball hundred in Mohali. In the recently-concluded World Cup, he batted in the key No. 4 slot, scoring 530 runs from 11 innings with two centuries and three fifties at an average of 66.25. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character. Rana, who led KKR to a seventh-place finish in IPL 2023, was named the vice-captain. I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including m

ECB tells Archer to skip 2024 IPL to manage workload ahead of T20 World Cup

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has instructed Jofra Archer to skip next year's Indian Premier League (IPL) in order to manage the injury-prone pacer's workload in the run up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, according to a report. Archer, who was bought by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2022 IPL for a whopping INR 8 crore, was released by the franchise last week. His name doesn't figure in the list of players who have registered for the IPL auction, set to be held on December 19 in Dubai. Archer, who has been plagued by multiple injuries, suffered a recurrence of his elbow stress fracture while playing for MI during the IPL in May. The 28-year-old Barbados born cricketer hasn't played any professional cricket since then and also missed the ODI World Cup. "... the ECB believes that it will be easier to manage Archer's comeback if he is in the UK in April and May under its supervision than if he is in India on the books of an IPL team looking to get their money's worth from him," ...
